Gi/o
Gi protein alpha subunit is a family of heterotrimeric G protein alpha subunits. This family is also commonly called the Gi/o (Gi /Go ) family or Gi/o/z/t family to include closely related family members. G alpha subunits may be referred to as Gi alpha, Gαi, or Giα. Family members There are four distinct subtypes of alpha subunits in the Gi/o/z/t alpha subunit family that define four families of heterotrimeric G proteins: * Gi proteins: Gi1α, Gi2α, and Gi3α * Go protein: Goα (in mouse there is alternative splicing to generate Go1α and Go2α) * Gz protein: Gzα * Transducins (Gt proteins): Gt1α, Gt2α, Gt3α Giα proteins Gi1α Gi1α is encoded by the gene GNAI1. Gi2α Gi2α is encoded by the gene GNAI2. Gi3α Gi3α is encoded by the gene GNAI3. Goα protein Go1α is encoded by the gene GNAO1. Gzα protein Gzα is encoded by the gene GNAZ. Transducin proteins Gt1α Transducin/Gt1α is encoded by the gene GNAT1. Gt2α Transducin 2/Gt2 ...

GIO (software)
GIO (Gnome Input/Output) is a library, designed to present programmers with a modern and usable interface to a virtual file system. It allows applications to access local and remote files with a single consistent API, which was designed "to overcome the shortcomings of GnomeVFS" and be "so good that developers prefer it over raw POSIX calls." GIO serves as low-level system library for the GNOME Shell/GNOME/GTK software stack and is being developed by The GNOME Project. It is maintained as a separate library, , but it is bundled with GLib. GIO is free and open-source software subject to the requirements of the GNU Lesser General Public License. Features * The abstract file system model of GIO consists of a number of interfaces and base classes for I/O and files. * There are a number of stream classes, similar to the input and output stream hierarchies that can be found in frameworks like Java. * There are interfaces related to applications and the types of files they handle. * Th ...

Gibioctet
The octet is a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunications that consists of eight bits. The term is often used when the term byte might be ambiguous, as the byte has historically been used for storage units of a variety of sizes. The term ''octad(e)'' for eight bits is no longer common. Definition The international standard IEC 60027-2, chapter 3.8.2, states that a byte is an octet of bits. However, the unit byte has historically been platform-dependent and has represented various storage sizes in the history of computing. Due to the influence of several major computer architectures and product lines, the byte became overwhelmingly associated with eight bits. This meaning of ''byte'' is codified in such standards as ISO/IEC 80000-13. While ''byte'' and ''octet'' are often used synonymously, those working with certain legacy systems are careful to avoid ambiguity. Octets can be represented using number systems of varying bases such as the hexadeci ...

Glucocorticoid-induced Osteoporosis
Steroid-induced osteoporosis is osteoporosis arising from the use of glucocorticoids (a class of steroid hormones) analogous to Cushing's syndrome but involving mainly the axial skeleton. The synthetic glucocorticoid prescription drug prednisone is a main candidate after prolonged intake. Bisphosphonates are beneficial in reducing the risk of vertebral fractures. Some professional guidelines recommend prophylactic calcium and vitamin D supplementation in patients who take the equivalent of more than 30 mg hydrocortisone (7.5 mg of prednisolone), especially when this is in excess of three months. The use of thiazide diuretics, and gonadal hormone replacement has also been recommended, with the use of calcitonin, bisphosphonates, sodium fluoride or anabolic steroids also suggested in refractory cases. Alternate day use may not prevent this complication. It is also known as glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. __TOC__ Mechanism Mechanisms of SIOP include: * Direct inhibitio ...
