Gilwell Ada's Hoeve
Gilwell Ada's Hoeve is one of the oldest Dutch national Scouting campsites, and from July 1923 until the 1960s hosted the Wood Badge trainings for Scouting leadership in the Netherlands. The site was founded as a Scouting campsite in 1923 by Philip baron van Pallandt on his Eerde Estate in Ommen. One of the largest Dutch sites of Scouting Nederland, it covers 45 hectares, and has 25 camping fields and other accommodation, hosting approximately 10,000 camping nights annually. History On 8 September 1853, Ada countess van Rechteren van Appeltern traditionally started a toll house, which later became known as Ada's Farmhouse ( nl, Ada's Hoeve). It was purchased in 1911 by R baron van Pallandt van Eerde, to be part of his Eerde Estate. Upon his death his nephew Philip baron van Pallandt inherited the estate. Ommen
Ommen () is a municipality and a Hanseatic city in the eastern Netherlands. It is located in the Vecht valley of the Salland region in Overijssel. Gilwell Park
Gilwell Park is a camp site and activity centre in East London located in the Sewardstonebury area of Waltham Abbey, within Epping Forest, near the border with Chingford. The site is owned by The Scout Association, is used by Scouting and Guiding groups. As the original base of leadership training in the Scout movement, it is an important site of the worldwide Scouting movement. In the late Middle Ages, the area was used as a farm, which grew to become to a wealthy estate that fell into disrepair around 1900. In 1919, Scout Commissioner William de Bois Maclaren bought the estate and gave it to The Scout Association to provide camping facilities for London Scouts and training for Scouters. Scout leaders from all countries of the world have visited Gilwell Park for their Wood Badge training. Scouting Nederland is the national Scout organisation of the Netherlands with approximately 110,000 members (53,324 male and 54,663 female, 87,000 youth members, as of 2010. The official patron of Scouting Nederland is Queen Máxima, the wife of the Dutch King, Willem-Alexander. Delftsche Zwervers
The Studentenstam De Delftsche Zwervers (Delft Rovers Student Crew) is a student society in Delft, Netherlands. Dating from 1915, it is the world's oldest student Scouting group, first as a club for former Scouts, from 1920 as a Rover crew. They are housed in the Scout Centre " Kruithuis", the monumental gunpowder ammunition dump of the Dutch Republic, designed in 1660 by Pieter Post. The members are students at the Delft University of Technology and other higher education institutions. Jan Schaap
Jan Frederik Schaap was a Scoutmaster in The Hague and a front man in the first decades of Scouting in The Netherlands. History Schaap's contributions to Scouting include the Dutch translation of Scouting for Boys (1924 and several later editions), and other Scouting books. In The Hague, he led the '2nd The Hague Troup' ( nl, 2e 's-Gravenhaagsche troep), together with Philip baron van Pallandt (who later inherited his uncle's estates Het Laar en Eerde in Ommen). The estate Het Laar contained the site for Gilwell Ada's Hoeve. In July 1923, Schaap organized the first Dutch Wood Badge Scout leadership training on Scout centre Gilwell Ada's Hoeve in Ommen. Dronten
Dronten () is a municipality and a town in the central Netherlands, in the province of Flevoland. It had a population of in . History Plans for the municipality of Dronten were made in the early half of the 1950s; real plans for the town of Dronten (the municipality's center) were revealed in 1958. The foundations for the town were laid in 1960. Right from the start there was a discussion whether Dronten was to become a town or a city. The first plans assumed 15,000 inhabitants, while later plans foresaw a growth to 30,000 inhabitants. The first plans for the municipality assumed ten smaller villages situated around the central town (in this case, Dronten). The number of villages was reduced because of increased motorized traffic and experiences gained in developing the Noordoostpolder, where a similar municipality had already been built.
