Laurence Gilman (born January 6, 1965, in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian ice hockey executive for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Currently, he serves as an assistant general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League and is the Senior Vice President of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. He is the former assistant general manager of the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Prior to joining the Canucks, Gilman was employed for 13 years by the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes organization, including stints as the team's assistant general manager and general manager of the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League. John Taylor Gilman
John Taylor Gilman (December 19, 1753September 1, 1828) was a farmer, shipbuilder and statesman from Exeter, New Hampshire. He represented New Hampshire in the Continental Congress in 1782–1783 and was the fifth governor of New Hampshire for 14 years, from 1794 to 1805, and from 1813 to 1816. Early life Gilman was born in Exeter, in the Province of New Hampshire, the son of Ann (Taylor) and Nicholas Gilman. His brother was Nicholas Gilman, who had signed the U.S. Constitution. His family had settled in Exeter in its earliest days. He lived in the Ladd-Gilman House, now a part of the American Independence Museum. He received a limited education before he entered into the family shipbuilding and mercantile businesses. Aged 22, he read aloud a Dunlap Broadside brought to New Hampshire on July 16, 1776 to the city of Exeter. James Gilman (17 March 1879 – 14 September 1976) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for London County, Middlesex and Cambridge University from 1900 to 1904. Gilman was educated at St Paul's School in London and Jesus College, Cambridge. An electrical engineer, he served as a major in the Royal Army Service Corps in World War One. At 97 years and 182 days when he died in 1976, Gilman was Middlesex's longest-lived player until Rusi Cooper overtook his record in 2020. Howard Gilman (February 15, 1924 – January 3, 1998) was descendant of Isaac Gilman, who had founded the Gilman Paper Company in 1884. Biography Gilman was born and raised on Manhattan's Upper East Side. He attended Horace Mann School in the Bronx, New York, and received his bachelor's degree in 1944 from Dartmouth College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He served in the Navy during World War II. Gilman died in 1998 of a heart attack at age 73, at his White Oak Plantation near Jacksonville, Florida. Henry Gilman (May 9, 1893 – November 7, 1986) was an American organic chemist known as the father of organometallic chemistry, the field within which his most notable work was done. He discovered the Gilman reagent, which bears his name. Early life and education (1893-1918) Henry Gilman was born in Boston, Massachusetts, as the son of a tailor. He was the third of eight children. Gilman graduated from a Boston high school and later attended Harvard University where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1915. Harold John Wilde Gilman (11 February 187612 February 1919) was a British painter of interiors, portraits and landscapes, and a founder-member of the Camden Town Group.
