Gilda Snowden
Gilda Snowden (July 29, 1954 – September 9, 2014) was an African-American artist, educator and mentor from Detroit, Michigan. Early life and education Snowden was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 29, 1954, and grew up in northwest Detroit. Snowden's father was a dentist. Her parents and grandparents migrated from Alabama and Texas to Detroit early in the 20th century, part of the mass movement of African Americans from the rural South to the urban North. She attended Cass Technical High School with a focus on fashion design. Snowden earned her earned her BFA degree in Advertising Design and Painting in 1977 and her MFA degree in Painting in 1979 from Wayne State University. She decided her sophomore year of college to focus on fine art. At Wayne State University, she was heavily influenced by the Cass Corridor art movement and studied with artist John Egner. Rapid City, South Dakota
Rapid City ( lkt, link=no, Mni Lúzahaŋ Otȟúŋwahe; "Swift Water City") is the second most populous city in South Dakota and the county seat of Pennington County. Named after Rapid Creek, where the settlement developed, it is in western South Dakota, on the Black Hills' eastern slope. The population was 74,703 as of the 2020 Census.
