Gilda Ochoa
Gilda Laura Ochoa is an American sociologist and professor. She is Professor of Chicana/o-Latina/o studies at Pomona College in the United States, and the author of ''Academic Profiling: Latinos, Asian Americans, and the Achievement Gap''. Career Ochoa earned her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1997 with a dissertation on relations between Mexican Americans and Mexican immigrants. Ochoa has been Professor of Chicana/o-Latina/o studies at Pomona College since 1997. Her teaching and research involved college students in community-based research on systemic racism, and community-driven responses to in Los Angeles. A woman is an adult female human. Prior to adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent). The American Sociological Association (ASA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the discipline and profession of sociology. Founded in December 1905 as the American Sociological Society at Johns Hopkins University by a group of fifty people, the first president of the association would be Lester Frank Ward. The Association for Asian American Studies was founded in 1979 as the Association for Asian/Pacific American Studies. The name was changed in 1982. The organization was established to promote teaching and research in Asian American studies.
