Gilbert Tyuienon
Gilbert Tyuiénon (born 28 March 1958) is a New Caledonian politician. He is a pro-independence ethnic Kanak. Tyuiénon-was elected Vice President of New Caledonia on 11 March 2011 in the collegial cabinet of Harold Martin and held that position until 5 June 2014. As of 2018, he continues to be a member of the collegial government. He was reelected as Vice President of New Caledonia on 9 July 2019 in the cabinet of Thierry Santa. He left office on 22 July 2021. Harold Martin (born 6 April 1954, Nouméa, New Caledonia) is a French politician. He served twice as President of the Government of New Caledonia (from 7 August 2007 to 10 May 2009 and again from 3 March 2011 to 5 June 2014) and three times as President of the Congress of New Caledonia between 1997 and 2011 (most recently from 22 May 2009 to 3 March 2011). Former student as a site manager in the ESTP, Martin replaced Marie-Noëlle Thémereau in 2007 as the leader of the ruling Future Together party after the party suffered an electoral setback to choose the territory's two members of the French assembly. Pierre Ngaiohni (born 1956) is a New Caledonian politician. He is a pro-independence ethnic Kanak. Ngaiohni was elected Vice President of New Caledonia on June 15, 2009, replacing Déwé Gorodey. Ngaiohni was succeeded by Gilbert Tyuienon in March 2011. Ngaiohni was elected Vice President five weeks after the 2009 New Caledonia legislative elections. Kanak People
The Kanak ( French spelling until 1984: Canaque) are the indigenous Melanesian inhabitants of New Caledonia, an overseas collectivity of France in the southwest Pacific. According to the 2019 census, the Kanak make up 41.2% of New Caledonia's total population — corresponding to around 112,000 people. The Kanak population is traditionally contrasted with two other groups of European descent: (1) the Caldoche, who were born in New Caledonia; and (2) the Zoreille, who live in the territory yet were born in metropolitan France. The earliest traces of human settlement in New Caledonia go back to Lapita culture, about 3000 BP, i.e. 1000 BCE.
