Gilbert Lawford Dalton (1904–1963) was a British children's writer and comics writer. He was most prolific as an author of stories for British boys' comics for DC Thomson publications. He wrote under several pseudonyms so the extent of his writing may not be entirely clear, but is believed to include ''Wilson the Wonder Athlete'', ''Alf Tupper'' and ''Matt Braddock''. DC Thomson is a media company based in Dundee, Scotland. Founded by David Couper Thomson in 1905, it is best known for publishing ''The Dundee Courier'', ''The Evening Telegraph'' and ''The Sunday Post'' newspapers, and the comics ''Oor Wullie'', ''The Broons'', ''The Beano'', ''The Dandy'' and ''Commando''. Wilson the Wonder Athlete was a British comic strip, first published in 1943 in the British illustrated story paper ''The Wizard'' published by D. C. Thomson & Co. It follows the sporting adventures of a heroic character named William Wilson. The stories were written by Gilbert Lawford Dalton and drawn by Jack Glass. The stories ran until 1984 in various British magazines. Publication history The character first appeared in issue 1029 ''Wizard'' (24 July 1943) in a story titled "The Truth About Wilson". The first adventure introduced Wilson as a supreme athlete, who joins a race from out of the crowd and manages to record a three-minute mile. Alf Tupper
''Alf Tupper'' is the protagonist of a British comic strip, ''The Tough of the Track'' (or ''Alf Tupper: The Tough of the Track''), created by Bill Blaine (probably a pseudonym for William Blaine, head of DC Thomson comics), written by Gilbert Lawford Dalton. He is a working class, "hard as nails" runner, whose adventures appeared in '' The Rover'' from 1949 and then '' The Victor'', British boys' comics from D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd. Matt Braddock
Matt Braddock, VC and bar, is a fictional World War II bomber pilot who first appeared in prose adventures in the story paper '' The Rover'' in 1952, and later as a comic strip in '' The Victor'' (1961–83) and ''Warlord'' (1974).Denis Gifford, ''Encyclopedia of Comic Characters'', Longman, 1987, p. 33 Some of his stories were published in book form as ''I Flew With Braddock''. Braddock was known for his fearless nature, superb piloting skills and no-nonsense attitude.
