Gibraltar Local Disability Movement
The Gibraltar Local Disability Movement (GLDM) was a pressure group operating in Gibraltar that sought to improve the lives of disabled people, promote equal opportunities, and tackle disability discrimination in Gibraltar. It was first established in 1985 in response to Gibraltar's lack of infrastructure and facilities for disabled people. The Gibraltar Local Disability Movement ceased to be active for several years during the 1990s and early 2000s but was reactivated in 2005 to address the situation for disabled people in Gibraltar, which did not see great improvement for several years. The Gibraltarians (Spanish: ''gibraltareños'', colloquially: '' llanitos'') are an ethnic group native to Gibraltar, a British overseas territory located near the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Origins Some Gibraltarians are a racial and cultural mixture of the many immigrants who came to the Rock of Gibraltar over 300 years. Following its capture by an Anglo-Dutch force in 1704, all but 70 of the existing inhabitants of Gibraltar elected to leave with many settling nearby.
