Giant Step is a media, events and marketing company headquartered in New York City and Los Angeles. The company formerly released music through its record label, Giant Step Records. Giant Step is divided into two entities – the Giant Step brand, which promotes music and the creative agency, Giant Step Marketing, which provides marketing services to consumer brands. History The Groove Academy and early years Groove Academy began in 1990 as a party in New York City. The party was a weekly production of British promoter, Maurice Bernstein, and his South African partner, Jonathan Rudnick. Initially unable to secure a loan from the bank, the pair borrowed money and used it to book acts and venues. Rappers
Rapping (also rhyming, spitting, emceeing or MCing) is a musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates "rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular". Gary Katz is an American record producer, best known for his work on albums by Steely Dan. Katz has also produced numerous other recording artists and assisted in the discovery and signing of a number of subsequently successful acts. Career A lifelong music fan, Katz grew up in Brooklyn listening to Chuck Berry and Fats Domino on a transistor radio. He had friends in the band Jay and the Americans who were his connection to the music business. The band worked with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who produced hit records for the Coasters and the Drifters. After Katz spent time with Leiber and Stoller in the studio, he realized he wanted to be a record producer. His first job after graduating from school was with singer Bobby Darin. Raw Stylus was a London-based dance music outfit whose core members were Donna Gardier, Jules Brookes and Ron Aslan. In 1995, they released the single, "Believe in Me", which reached number 1 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart. It was a minor success in the United Kingdom reaching number 66 on the UK Singles Chart in October 1996. Repercussions were an American R&B, soul and acid jazz group of the 1990s at Giant Step, formed by former Groove Collective members, New York native vocalist, rapper, drummer and music producer Genji Siraisi. Hudson Hotel
The Hudson New York was a boutique hotel located along West 58th Street (at Ninth Avenue), in the New York City borough of Manhattan. The hotel closed in November 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. History The Hudson New York was constructed in 1928 by Anne Morgan, daughter of J. P. Morgan, as the American Women's Association clubhouse and residence for young women in New York. It was completed in 1929. The Village Gate
The Village Gate was a nightclub at the corner of Thompson and Bleecker Streets in Greenwich Village, New York. Art D'Lugoff opened the club in 1958, on the ground floor and basement of 160 Bleecker Street. The large 1896 Chicago School structure by architect Ernest Flagg was known at the time as Mills House No. 1 and served as a flophouse for transient men. In its heyday, the Village Gate also included an upper-story performance space, known as the Top of the Gate.
