Giannis Alafouzos
Giannis Alafouzos ( el, Γιάννης Αλαφούζος, born 2 July 1957) is a Greek businessman, shipowner, and member of the Alafouzos family from Santorini. Early life Giannis Alafouzos was born in 1957 and is the son of businessman, shipowner and newspaper publisher Aristeidis Alafouzos. He graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in economics and history. During his student years, he was an athlete, in particular the 100m sprint. He is a sailor with significant international distinctions. He is married and has three children. Santorini
Santorini ( el, Σαντορίνη, ), officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα ) and classical Greek Thera (English pronunciation ), is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from the Greek mainland. In the media area he was best known for his ownership of the Kathimerini newspaper. Early life Alafouzos was born in Oia, Greece, Oia on the island of Santorini to Ioannis Alafouzos a member of a shipping and political family on the island. A year after his birth there was a volcanic eruption on the island, which led his family to move to Piraeus, where Aristides went on to study at the Second Piraeus Middle School for Boys, excelling at mathematics. In September 1940 the family relocated to Athens, where he continued his high school education. 2015 Greek Football Scandal
The 2015 Greek football scandal emerged on 6 April 2015 when prosecutor Aristidis Korreas' 173-page work was revealed. Telephone tapping operated by the National Intelligence Service of Greece since 2011 has played a significant role in the case. According to the prosecutor's conclusion, Greek Football Federation members Theodoros Kouridis, and Georgios Sarris are suspected of directing a criminal organization since 2011. The goal behind their scheme was to "absolutely control Greek football's fate by the methods of blackmailing and fraud", exploiting the self-governing ("autonomy") status of national football federations promoted by FIFA and UEFA. Referees, judges, football directors and chairmen are also involved in the scandal. All defendants were acquitted of all charges.
