Giampiero Neri
Giampietro Pontiggia (7 April 1927 – 15 February 2023), pen name Giampiero Neri, was an Italian poet. He was noted for his novel style; his work is known for its concise, dry, and unembellished style, and veined with melancholy and humor. His work was often written in prose. Biography Neri was born in Erba, Como on 7 April 1927. He grew up during World War II, in which he lost members of his family. His younger sister committed suicide in her twenties. He began publishing poetry in the 1960s, influenced by his younger brother (but more known at that time) - Giuseppe Pontiggia. He was soon recognized as a major exponent of the Milanese school of poetry. His poems were often themed around the experiences during the war. He was one of the first in Italy to use a poetical prose as poetry (likely influenced by the descriptive narratives by Vittorio Sereni) and has been called "a master of poetry in Italian prose". Giuseppe Pontiggia
Giuseppe Pontiggia (; 25 September 1934 – 27 June 2003) was an Italian writer and literary critic. Biography He was born in Como, and moved to Milan with his family in 1948. In 1959 he graduated from the Università Cattolica in Milan with a thesis on Italo Svevo. After a first unnoticed short story anthology published in 1959, Pontiggia, encouraged by Elio Vittorini, decided to devote himself entirely to writing starting from 1961. His first novel was ''L'arte della fuga'' of 1968. Pontiggia won the Premio Strega in 1989 with ''La grande sera'' and the Premio Campiello in 2001 with ''Nati due volte''. He also wrote numerous articles and essays. He died in Milan in 2003 by a circulatory stroke. Vittorio Sereni
Vittorio Sereni (27 July 1913 – 10 February 1983) was an Italian poet, author, editor and translator. His poetry frequently addressed the themes of 20th-century Italian history, such as Fascism, Italy's military defeat in World War II, and its postwar resurgence. Born at Luino, Sereni graduated from the University of Milan in 1936. In 1938, he co-founded the literary review ''Corrente di Vita''. In 1941, he published ''Frontiera'', his first collection of poetry. He was drafted into the Italian Army during World War II: captured by Allied forces in 1943, he spent the rest of the war in POW camps in Algeria and Morocco. These experiences formed the basis for his second poetry book, ''Diario d'Algeria''. After the war, Sereni worked as a teacher and literary critic. From the mid-1950s until his retirement in 1976, he was literary director of the Arnoldo Mondadori Editore publishing house. Arnoldo Mondadori Editore () is the biggest publishing company in Italy.
