GiGA Island is a South Korean corporate social responsibility initiative which aims to improve the quality of life in remote areas such as islands and highlands by improving education, healthcare, and culture, through utilizing ICT (Information and communications technology, Information & Communications Technologies) solutions and high speed internet connections. GiGA Island was first launched by KT Corporation, KT(Korea Telecom) in 2014, which now operates in five different locations in Korea. The first international Giga Island program was launched in Bangladesh on the Maheshkhali Island, Moheshkhali Island in 2017. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a form of international private business self-regulation which aims to contribute to societal goals of a philanthropic, activist, or charitable nature by engaging in or supporting volunteering or ethically oriented practices. While once it was possible to describe CSR as an internal organizational policy or a corporate ethic strategy, that time has passed as various national and international laws have been developed. Various organizations have used their authority to push it beyond individual or even industry-wide initiatives.
