Ghosh (or Ghose) is an Indian and Bangladeshi surname found among Bengali Hindus. Ghoshes mostly belong to Kayastha caste in Bengal. The Bengali Kayasthas evolved as a caste from a category of officials or scribes, between the 5th/6th century AD and 11th/12th century AD, its component elements being putative Kshatriyas and mostly Brahmins. Ghoshes are considered as Kulin Kayasthas of Soukalin gotra, along with Boses, Guhas and Mitras. Ghosh is also used as surname by the Sadgop and Goala caste in Bengal. Bengali Hindus ( bn, বাঙ্গালী হিন্দু/বাঙালি হিন্দু, translit=Bāṅgālī Hindu/Bāṅāli Hindu) are an ethnoreligious population who make up the majority in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand, and Assam's Barak Valley region. Dipu Ghosh
Dipu Ghosh is a former badminton player from India who shined in the 1960s. His brother Raman Ghosh, his long time partner in doubles was also a prominent badminton talent in the country. Ghosh is a former national champion for seven times, in all the three possible categories. Notably in singles, he reached the finals six times but won only once in 1969. Most of the time he finished second to the best singles players of the country that time like Nandu Natekar, Suresh Goel and Dinesh Khanna. In doubles the Ghosh brothers reached every final between 1963 and 1970 by winning the title 5 times during this period. In the 1970 Thomas Cup tie, India was beaten 2–7 by Indonesia. Dhiman Ghosh (born 23 November 1987) is a Bangladeshi first-class cricketer. He represented Bangladesh through the age group levels, playing for Bangladesh A in 2003–04 and 2004–05, and appeared in Under-19 Tests and ODIs. He played 14 ODIs and one T20I for Bangladesh in 2008. Dhiman was born in Dinajpur. A right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, he has scored eleven first-class centuries. Acharya Debaprasad Ghosh ( bn, আচার্য দেবপ্রসাদ ঘোষ) (15 March 1894 – 14 July 1985) was an Indian mathematician, linguist, lawyer, journalist, educationist and statesman. Atulkrishna Ghosh ( bn, অতুলকৃষ্ণ ঘোষ; 1890 – 4 May 1966) was an Indian revolutionary, member of the Anushilan Samiti, and a leader of the Jugantar movement involved in Hindu German Conspiracy during World War I.
