Getty House
The Getty House is the official residence of the mayor of Los Angeles, California. It is located at 605 South Irving Boulevard in Windsor Square, a historic district east of Hancock Park, about five miles west of the Los Angeles City Hall. History The house is named after George Getty II's son, J. Paul Getty, the oil tycoon. It was designed and built in the Tudor Revival style in 1921 for $83,000 ( $ million in ). The Getty Oil company purchased the house in 1959, and offered the property to the City of Los Angeles on November 12, 1975. The original gardens were designed by A. E. Hanson, and have been restored. According to the Los Angeles County Assessor, the property spans approximately half an acre – 22,523 square feet. Windsor Square is a small, historic neighborhood in the Wilshire region of Los Angeles, California. It is highly diverse in ethnic makeup, with an older population than the city as a whole. Richard Joseph Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is an American investment banker, businessman, lawyer, and former Republican politician who was the 39th Mayor of Los Angeles, from 1993 to 2001. The 2005 election for Mayor of Los Angeles took place on March 8, 2005, with a run-off election on May 17, 2005. In a rematch of the 2001 election, Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa defeated the sitting mayor, James Hahn, becoming the city's first Hispanic mayor since the 19th century.
