Get Some Fun
''Get Some Fun'' is the third studio album by the Australian power pop group, Sunnyboys. It was produced by Nick Garvey, formerly of The Motors and released in April 1984 on Mushroom Records. It peaked at No. 36 on the Australian Kent Music Report albums chart, but like all of the band's first three albums has come to be regarded as a classic of its time. Background For this album, the band hired new management in the form of Michael Chugg and in May 1983 Sunnyboys returned to the studio to record a new single, "Show Me Some Discipline" which possessed a darker soul to the band's previous fare. ''Get Some Fun'' was released in April 1984. All ten songs were recent creations with the exception of "Catch My Heart," which had been around since the band's inception. Sunnyboys are an Australian power pop band formed in Sydney in 1979. Fronted by singer-songwriter, guitarist Jeremy Oxley, the band "breathed some freshness and vitality into the divergent Sydney scene". The Motors
The Motors were a British pub rock band formed in London in 1977 by former Ducks Deluxe members Nick Garvey and Andy McMaster together with guitarist Rob Hendry (who was replaced in May 1977 by Bram Tchaikovsky) and drummer Ricky Slaughter. Their biggest success was with the McMaster-penned song "Airport", a number 4 UK hit single in 1978. History Having left Ducks Deluxe in early 1975, Garvey formed a band called The Snakes with Slaughter and vocalist Robert Gotobed, who would later form the post-punk band Wire. The group released only one single before splitting up. At the suggestion of his manager, Richard Ogden, Garvey formed his own band. Peter Oxley
Peter Oxley was the bass player for 1980s Australian pop-rock band The Sunnyboys. He is credited with writing two songs with The Sunnyboys: "The Stooge" (from the 1984 album ''Get Some Fun'') and "You Don't Need Me" (from the 1983 album ''Individuals''). He also co-wrote "Let You Go", from the group's 1981 self-titled debut album with his brother Jeremy. The older brother of Sunnyboys front man Jeremy Oxley, Peter later teamed with their sister Melanie Oxley in her band The Sparklers. Peter lives in Newtown, Sydney, working at the gourmet pizza restaurant he owns and manages. In 2017, Peter joined Ed Kuepper's revival of The Aints! for a series of shows playing material from Kuepper's earlier band, The Saints. Following the tour, the band recorded an album of songs originally written around the time of The Saints, and followed this with another tour in late 2018. LP Record
The LP (from "long playing" or "long play") is an analog sound storage medium, a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. Introduced by Columbia in 1948, it was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire record industry. "Alone with You" is a song by Australian band Sunnyboys. Jeremy Oxley
Jeremy Saxon Oxley (born 15 November 1961) is an Australian songwriter, singer and guitarist. He is best known for his work with the 1980s pop-rock band Sunnyboys. Biography 1961-1978: Early Life Jeremy Oxley grew up in the northern New South Wales town of Kingscliff after his parents, Eric and Jan, moved from Sydney. Jeremy was the second oldest of five children, the others being older brother Peter, sister Melanie and younger brothers Tim and Damien. Michael Chugg
Michael Glenn Chugg (born 15 June 1947) is an Australian entrepreneur, businessman and concert tour promoter. As a promoter and manager he was a founder of Frontier Touring Company (1979–99) and Michael Chugg Entertainment (2000–present). On 8 June 1998, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia with the citation "for service to music and the performing arts, particularly in relation to the promotion of Australian artists and to fundraising for youth and children's charities". Kent Music Report
The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. Power Pop
Power pop (also typeset as powerpop) is a form of pop rock based on the early music of bands such as the Who, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Byrds. It typically incorporates melodic hooks, vocal harmonies, an energetic performance, and cheerful sounding music underpinned by a sense of yearning, longing, or despair.
