Gerónimo Peña
Gerónimo Peña Martínez (born March 29, 1967) is a Dominican former professional baseball second baseman who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians from 1990–1996. Playing career Gerónimo Peña made his major league debut on September 5, 1990, for the St. Louis Cardinals versus the Montreal Expos, collecting his first major league hit. In 1991, Peña appeared in a career-high 104 games, scored 38 runs and stole 15 bases, both also career-highs, and batted .262 with eight doubles, three triples, five home runs, and 17 runs batted in (RBI). In 1992, Peña hit career-bests of .305 and .863 on-base plus slugging (OPS) in 62 games and 236 plate appearances. On July 1, 1996, the Cardinals released Peña, making him a free agent. In baseball, a double is the act of a batter striking the pitched ball and safely reaching second base without being called out by the umpire, without the benefit of a fielder's misplay (see error) or another runner being put out on a fielder's choice. A double is a type of hit (the others being the single, triple and home run) and is sometimes called a "two-bagger" or "two-base hit". For statistical and scorekeeping purposes it is denoted by 2B. Jeremy Peña
Jeremy Joan Peña (born September 22, 1997) is a Dominican-American professional baseball shortstop for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). He attended the University of Maine and played college baseball for the Black Bears. The Astros selected Peña in the third round of the 2018 MLB draft, and he made his MLB debut in 2022. In 2022, Peña became the first rookie shortstop to win a Gold Glove Award and the first to hit a home run in the World Series. Walk (baseball)
A base on balls (BB), also known as a walk, occurs in baseball when a batter receives four pitches that the umpire calls '' balls'', and is in turn awarded first base without the possibility of being called out. The base on balls is defined in Section 2.00 of baseball's Official Rules, and further detail is given in 6.08(a). It is considered a faux pas for a professional player to literally walk to first base; the batter-runner and any advancing runners normally jog on such a play. The term "base on balls" distinguishes a walk from the other manners in which a batter can be awarded first base without liability to be put out (e.g., hit by pitch (HBP), catcher's interference). In baseball statistics, a player is credited with a plate appearance (denoted by PA) each time he completes a turn batting. Under Rule 5.04(c) of the Official Baseball Rules, a player completes a turn batting when he is put out or becomes a runner. This happens when he strikes out or is declared out before reaching first base; or when he reaches first base safely or is awarded first base (by a base on balls, hit by pitch, catcher's interference, or obstruction); or when he hits a fair ball which causes a preceding runner to be put out for the third out before he himself is put out or reaches first base safely (''see also'' left on base, fielder's choice, force play). On-base plus slugging (OPS) is a sabermetric baseball statistic calculated as the sum of a player's on-base percentage and slugging percentage. The ability of a player both to get on base and to hit for power, two important offensive skills, are represented. An OPS of .800 or higher in Major League Baseball puts the player in the upper echelon of hitters. Typically, the league leader in OPS will score near, and sometimes above, the 1.000 mark.
