Gert Staal
Gert Staal (1956) is a Dutch researcher, publicist and critic in the fields of design, architecture and urban design. Educated as linguist and art historian over the years he was active as journalist, editor, author, manager and teacher particularly in the those fields of Dutch design. Biography Staal was born in 1956, and received his MA in Dutch language and art history at the University of Amsterdam. In 1981 Staal began working as a design journalist for ''de Volkskrant,'' where he wrote about design events on a nearly weekly basis. In late 1983, he moved to the ''NRC Handelsblad,'' where he continued to write about design-related topics for a period of more than five years. In the 1990s he continued to write occasionally for the ''NRC Handelsblad'', for ''de Volkskrant'', and for ''Trouw''. In the 1980s Staal had started writing and editing books on designers and design, and continued to do so over the years. In the next 40 years he wrote more than 50 publications. In ... John Thackara
John Thackara (born 6 August 1951, Newcastle upon Tyne) is a British-born writer, advisor and public speaker. He is known as curator of the celebrated Doors of Perception conference for 20 years, which started in Amsterdam. He is a senior fellow at the Royal College of Art in London. Biography Early life and education Thackara was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England as son of Alexander Daniel Thackara, and Eleanor Hazel, ''née'' Miller. He attended Marlborough College from 1964 to 1969, and the University of Kent from 1970 to 1974, where he obtained his BA in philosophy. He continued his studies at the University of Wales Centre for Journalism Studies in the year 1974–75 obtaining his master's degree, journalism. After his philosophy education and journalist training he worked for ten years as a book publisher and magazine editor. Louise Schouwenberg
Louise Schouwenberg (born 23 January 1954, in Belfeld) studied psychology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, sculpture at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. She worked as a visual artist from 1985–2003. Since then her primary focus has been on art and design theory. Schouwenberg is head of the Masters programme Contextual Design at Design Academy Eindhoven (teacher since 2005, head since 2010), and mentor of the Masters programme Inside, Interior Architecture, of the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. Schouwenberg has curated exhibitions on the cutting edge of art and design and has worked as adviser for many organisations.
