Gerry Murphy is an Irish poet. Life and work Gerry Murphy was born in Cork City in 1952. His work is witty, openly intellectual and often satirical and is "highly, self-consciously literary". "Much of the most recent work displays intense absorption of the Roman classics either through direct reference or employment of the pithy epigram." He attended University College Cork where he was part of a resurgence of literary activity under the inspiration of John Montague. Among his contemporaries, described by Thomas Dillon Redshaw as "that remarkable generation," there were Thomas McCarthy, William Wall, Theo Dorgan, Maurice Riordan, Greg Delanty and Sean Dunne. He is a hugely popular reader of his own work. Gerry Murphy (born 22 July 1943, in Dublin, Ireland) was the Director of Football Development at Huddersfield Town between 1988 and 2009. He was the Academy Director between 1988 and 17 April 2007, and was caretaker manager of Huddersfield Town in three different spells. Career Murphy never played football above amateur level, but has the full complement of coaching qualifications to international level. Huddersfield Town Murphy worked at Huddersfield Town since 1988, where he joined as scout. He also filled the Academy chief role, was three times Caretaker Manager, and his final position was as Director of Football Development. Award Murphy won the Football League's ''Contribution to Football'' award on 5 March 2006 selected by listeners of BBC Radio Five Live's ''Sport on Five''. Gerry Murphy is a former Irish rugby coach and player and currently involved with Leinster Rugby as domestic team manager. Playing career Murphy first played for Dublin University and Wanderers. Coaching Murphy began his coaching career at Wanderers. He has coached Clontarf RFC and the Ireland U-21s. He was in charge of the senior Ireland team from 1992 to 1995, beating England, twice home and away, in 1993 and 1994. Murphy also lead Ireland to the quarter-finals of the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He coached Terenure College RFC and Terenure College School, he was the backs coach when Terenure won the Leinster Schools Senior Cup in 2001. He is best known as a social entrepreneur and for founding Great Gas Petroleum in 2005 and subsequently writing the book ''The Accidental Entrepreneur: How We Turned €3,749 into a €100 million business in Three Years'' published by Orpen Press in 2014. In 2001, Murphy was awarded the Cork Person of the Year for his contribution to the renewal of his local community of Churchtown. Gerry Murphy (born ) is an Irish meteorologist with Met Éireann, best known for his appearances on RTÉ. After graduating with a degree in Experimental Physics from University College Dublin in 1990, Murphy joined Met Éireann in 1992. He received meteorological training in Reading and experience in aviation forecasting at Shannon Airport, before being 'chief scientist' at Valentia Observatory from 1993 to 1999. Murphy returned to Dublin in 1999, and worked as Met Éireann's agricultural meteorologist until 2001. Jerry Murphy
Jeremiah Michael Murphy (born 23 September 1959) is a retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder in the League for Crystal Palace and Chelsea before moving into non-league football with Fisher Athletic. Born in England, he made three appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team. Career Murphy started out with Terry Venables' Crystal Palace, spending nine years at Selhurst Park during which time he won the FA Youth Cup in both 1977 and 1978 as part of the famous "Team of the Eighties". The club were then promoted to the First Division in Murphy's first full season in the side, but were relegated after two seasons in the top flight. However, Murphy remained with Palace winning the "Player of the Year" award in 1983. He moved back to the top flight again, joining Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer of 1985.
