Gerrit Verkuyl
Gerrit Verkuijl or Gerrit Verkuyl (18 September 1872, Haarlemmermeer – 19 March 1967, Alameda, California) was a New Testament Greek scholar and Bible Translator. He emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States at 21, becoming a farmhand in California. He later went to college, earning degrees from Park College of Kansas City, Princeton University, and the University of Leipzig. He became a minister in the Presbyterian church, serving as a pastor in Philadelphia, then working for the Board of Education of the PC(USA). "This brought him in contact with young people throughout the country and resulted in his seeing the need for a Bible translation in up-to-date language." He moved to Berkeley, California, to work on his translation, hence the name of his New Testament translation, '' Berkeley Version''. It was based on Tischendorf's eighth edition of the Greek text. Haarlemmermeer () is a municipality in the west of the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Haarlemmermeer is a polder, consisting of land reclaimed from water. The name Haarlemmermeer means ' Haarlem's lake', referring to the body of water from which the region was reclaimed in the 19th century. Park College
Park University is a private university in Parkville, Missouri. It was founded in 1875. In the fall of 2017, Park had an enrollment of 11,457 students. History The school which was originally called Park College was founded in 1875 by John A. McAfee on land donated by George S. Park with its initial structure being the stone hotel Park owned on the bluff above the Missouri River. The original concept called for students to receive free tuition and board in exchange for working up to half day in the college's farm, electrical shop or printing plant. According to the terms of the arrangement if the “Parkville Experiment” did not work out within five years, the college grounds were to revert to Park. The Berkeley Version is an English translation of the Bible. The New Testament was published by Zondervan Zondervan is an international Christian media and publishing company located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Constantin Von Tischendorf
Lobegott Friedrich Constantin (von) Tischendorf (18 January 18157 December 1874) was a German biblical scholar. In 1844, he discovered the world's oldest and most complete Bible dated to around the mid-4th century and called Codex Sinaiticus after Saint Catherine's Monastery at Mount Sinai, where Tischendorf discovered it. Tischendorf was made an honorary doctor by the University of Oxford on 16 March 1865, and by the University of Cambridge on 9 March 1865 following this find of the century. While a student gaining his academic degree in the 1840s, he earned international recognition when he deciphered the ''Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus'', a 5th-century Greek language, Greek Biblical manuscript, manuscript of the New Testament.
