Gerrit Schoonhoven
Gerrit Schoonhoven (27 September 1958 – 20 October 2020), was a South African filmmaker, television director and actor. He is best known for directing the soapie ''Binnelanders''. Personal life Schoonhoven was born on 27 September 1958 in South Africa. In 1981, he graduated with an honors degree in drama from the University of Potchefstroom (UOP). After the graduation, he became a lecturer in drama at the same university in 1985. He was married to Marius Meyer where the wedding was celebrated on 27 September 2020. He died on 20 October 2020 at the age of 62 due to cancer. Career In 1980 while studying at UOP, he acted in Rob Antonissen's translation into Afrikaans of Mariken van Nieumeghen. In 1982, he joined with Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal (PACT) and continued to perform in theatre until 1985 in the plays such as; ''Die Vasvat van 'n Feeks'' and ''Die Keiser''. The Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (abbreviated as PU for CHE) was a South African university located in Potchefstroom. Instruction was mainly in Afrikaans. In 2004, the university was merged with other institutions to create the North-West University. The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards are annual South African theatre awards focusing on professional productions staged in and around Cape Town. Awards are presented in 20 categories. History The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards were originally known as the Three Leaf Arts Awards. The first awards were made in 1965 for the preceding year's productions. Sweet 'n Short
''Sweet 'n Short'' is a 1991 Leon Schuster movie made in South Africa. It was directed by Gray Hofmeyr. Plot In South Africa, Sweet Coetzee wins an award for 20 years service as a sportscaster on his 40th birthday, beating his rival, pompous George "The Weasle" Weedle. After Sweet gets drunk one night at his birthday party, he misses a sportscast and his boss, Bryce Williams demotes him to interviewer and promotes Weedle. Through the next part of the film we see that Sweet is reckless as he openly says his girlfriend, Sandy is "the best bum in the business". A subplot of the film are two robbers, "Bossy" and "Savage" who the main characters remain remotely unaware of as they are just a comic theme. Sweet pulls a prank on Weedle during a golf game and is suspended for six month. Sweet also records Weedle having humorous intercourse with a prostitute, "The Orphan in a Storm". The Mangler (film)
''The Mangler'' is a 1995 horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Hooper and Harry Alan Towers (under the pseudonym of Peter Welbeck). The film is based upon the Stephen King 1972 short story of the same name, which appeared in his 1978 inaugural short story collection '' Night Shift''. It stars Robert Englund and Ted Levine. It also spawned two sequels, '' The Mangler 2'' and '' The Mangler Reborn''. Plot The Mangler, in Gartley's Blue Ribbon Laundry service, is a laundry press owned by Bill Gartley. The trouble starts when Gartley's niece, Sherry, accidentally cuts herself on a lever connected to the machine and splashes blood on the Mangler's tread while trying to avoid being crushed by an old ice box some movers are clumsily carrying past.
