Gero Merhart von Bernegg (17 October 1886 in Bregenz – 4 March 1959) was a German archaeologist. Bregenz
Bregenz (; gsw, label= Vorarlbergian, Breagaz ) is the capital of Vorarlberg, the westernmost state of Austria. The city lies on the east and southeast shores of Lake Constance, the third-largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, between Switzerland in the west and Germany in the northwest. Bregenz is located on a plateau falling in a series of terraces to the lake at the foot of Pfänder mountain. It is a junction of the arterial roads from the Rhine valley to the German Alpine foothills, with cruise ship services on Lake Constance. Nazi archaeology was the movement led by various Nazi leaders, such as Adolf Hitler and Heinrich Himmler, which encouraged archaeologists and other scholars to look back into Germany's archeological past for research and study in order to strengthen nationalism. Overview The search for a strong, nationalistic, Aryan-centric national prehistory of Germany began after Germany's loss in World War I in 1918, in which during this time, the country faced a severe economic crisis due to the terms brought on by the Treaty of Versailles. One of the leading experts who engaged in research and study in search of the German prehistory was German philologist and archeologist Gustaf Kossinna, with his ideas and theories being picked up and further researched by the Nazi organizations Amt Rosenberg and Ahnenerbe. Hans Reinerth
Hans Reinerth (13 May 1900, in Bistritz, Austria-Hungary – 13 April 1990, in Unteruhldingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) was a German archaeologist. He was a pioneer of Palynology (pollen analysis) and modern settlement archaeology, but is controversial because of his role before and during the period of National Socialism. Life Hans Reinerth was born in Bistritz, Austria-Hungary on 13 May 1900 to a Transylvania Saxon family. Reinerth completed his doctorate in 1921 in Tübingen in a short course of study, followed in 1925 by habilitation. The Tübingen Prehistoric Research Institute (''Tübinger Urgeschichtliche Forschungsinstitut '') under the direction of Robert Rudolf Schmidt carried out extensive excavations at the Federsee, where Reinerth soon played an important role. He examined, among other things, the Bronze Age water castle at Buchau, but never published a complete report of the excavation during his life.
