Germany–Moldova relations are foreign relations between Germany and Moldova. Germany has an embassy in Chişinău. Moldova has an embassy in Berlin. Germany was one of the first countries to recognise the independence on Moldova and to set up a diplomatic mission. History Germany recognised independence of Moldova on 14 December 1991. Diplomatic relations between Moldova and Germany were established on 30 April 1992. Germany opened its embassy in Chişinău on 2 November 1992 and Moldova opened its own embassy in Bonn on 28 March 1995. The Bessarabia Germans (german: Bessarabiendeutsche, ro, Germani basarabeni, uk, Бессарабські німці) were an ethnic group who lived in Bessarabia (today part of the Republic of Moldova and south-western Ukraine) between 1814 and 1940. From 1814 to 1842, 9,000 of them immigrated from the German areas Baden, Württemberg, Bavaria, some Prussian areas of modern-day Poland and Alsace, France, to the Russian governorate of Bessarabia at the Black Sea. The area, bordering on the Black Sea, was part of the Russian Empire, in the form of Novorossiya; it later became the ''Bessarabia Governorate''. Moldova–European Union Relations
Relations between the European Union (EU) and Moldova are currently shaped via the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), an EU foreign policy instrument dealing with countries bordering its member states. Moldova has strong ties to EU member state Romania. During the interwar period the two countries were united. They share a common language, traditions and culture. The Moldovan flag is a modified version of the Romanian equivalent, with the Moldovan arms superimposed in its centre.
