Germany In The Eurovision Song Contest 1978
Germany was represented by Ireen Sheer, with the song "Feuer", at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 22 April in Paris. "Feuer" was chosen as the German entry at the national final on 20 February, and was the second of Sheer's three Eurovision appearances; she had previously represented Luxembourg in 1974 and would later be a member of a six-piece ensemble in 1985, again on behalf of Luxembourg. The 1978 German final is notable for the fact that voting was to be split in a 2:1 ratio between an "expert" jury and a panel of radio listeners but after hearing the songs, the expert jury decided that none was up to par and refused to vote, leaving the choice entirely in the hands of the radio panel. Ireen Sheer
Ireen Sheer (born 25 February 1949) is a German-English singer. She had a top five hit on the GfK Entertainment Charts, German singles chart with "Goodbye Mama" in 1973. She went on to finish fourth at the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 representing Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest, Luxembourg, sixth at the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 representing Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest, Germany, and thirteenth at the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 representing Luxembourg again. Life and career Born in Romford, England, Sheer spent her early years in Billericay, Essex in the U.K. where she attended The Billericay School. Marianne Rosenberg
Marianne Rosenberg (born 10 March 1955) is a German Schlager music singer and songwriter. Personal background Rosenberg is of Roma and Sinti background. Her father, Otto, an Auschwitz death camp survivor, was an activist on Roma and Sinti issues. Her sister, Petra, also advocates for Roma issues. Intervision Song Contest
The Intervision Song Contest (ISC) was an international song contest for artists from countries of the former Soviet Union and members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. It was previously the " Eastern Bloc equivalent to the Eurovision Song Contest". Its organiser was Intervision, the network of Eastern Bloc television stations. The contest would usually take place in the Forest Opera in Sopot, Poland. The ISC was organised between 1977 and 1980. It replaced the Sopot International Song Festival (Sopot ISF) that had been held in Sopot since 1961.
