Germany,, officially the Federal Republic of Germany, is a country in Central Europe. It is the second most populous country in Europe after Russia, and the most populous member state of the European Union. Germany Smith
George J. "Germany" Smith (April 21, 1863 – December 1, 1927) was an American Major League Baseball player from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Primarily a shortstop, Smith played for five teams in 15 seasons. He made his major league debut for Altoona Mountain City of the Union Association in 1884. After Altoona's team folded after just 25 games, he jumped to the Cleveland Blues of the National League. After the 1884 season, Cleveland then sold him, along with six other players, to the Brooklyn Bridegrooms for $4000. On June 17, 1885, Smith reportedly committed seven errors intentionally when his team decided to punish new pitcher Phenomenal Smith, losing the game 18-5. All 18 runs against the brash left-hander were unearned‚ due to a total of 14 Brooklyn "errors". Germany Valley, located in Rabun County in the U.S. state of Georgia, four miles northwest of Clayton, is a gently sloping valley surrounded by Blue Ridge Mountain peaks. The Germany community is often referred to by local residents as "Germany Mountain," although there is actually no named peak in the area by that name. At an elevation of approximately , Germany is generally considered the third highest mountain valley in the state, after Sky Valley (), also in Rabun County, and the Suches community () in Union County. Germany Valley is a scenic upland valley high in the Allegheny Mountains of eastern West Virginia originally settled by German (including Pennsylvania Dutch) farmers in the mid-18th century. It is today a part of the Spruce Knob–Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area of the Monongahela National Forest, although much ownership of the Valley remains in private hands. The Valley is noted for its extensive karst and cave development, with dozens of caves and cave systems having been formally documented and mapped. The area was made a National Natural Landmark, the Germany Valley Karst Area, in 1973 by the National Park Service. The NPS cited it as "one of the largest cove or intermountain karst areas in the country, unique because all the ground water recharge and solution activities are linked with precipitation within the cove." Germany Township is a township in Adams County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,700 at the 2010 census. The majority of early settlers were from Germany and Great Britain. Geography Germany Township is in southern Adams County, along the Maryland border. It borders the west and south sides of the borough of Littlestown. Pennsylvania Route 97 passes through the township, leading northwest to Gettysburg and south as Maryland Route 97 to Westminster, Maryland. Germany is an unincorporated community in Houston County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 43 in 2000. History One of the area's first immigrants, Jacob Masters Sr., arrived here with his family and slaves around 1828 via North Carolina, Kentucky, and Alabama. Through empresario David G. Burnet, Masters and his son Jacob, Jr. submitted a request for land on October 30, 1834, and on February 14, 1835, the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas granted each of them a league of land. Joseph Rice, the son-in-law of Masters, acquired land in the county on December 30, 1841, and he erected a house close to Old San Antonio Road.
