The German Historical Institute in Rome, short DHI Rome, is the oldest of the German historical institutes abroad. Its purpose is to conduct research in the history of both Italy and Germany, and investigate particularly the German-Italian relations in a wider international context from medieval times to the present day. Overview As one of ten research institutes in humanities worldwide funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the GHIP is part of the Max Weber Foundation – German Humanities Institutes Abroad, a legal entity closely linked to the German Federal Government and located in Bonn. The German Historical Institute Warsaw is a history institute of the Max Weber Stiftung based in Warsaw, Poland. The director of the institute is Prof. Dr. Miloš Řezník, and the deputy director is Prof. Dr. Ruth Leiserowitz. Since 2017, the GHI has a branch office in Vilnius which promotes research on the history of Lithuania in the Central and Eastern European context and on Lithuania‘s historical ties with Germany, Poland and other countries in the region. The German Studies Association (GSA) is an international organization of scholars in history, literature, economics, cultural studies, and political science who study Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The organization began in 1976 as the Western Association for German Studies, and was renamed as the GSA in 1983 after transforming itself into first a North American organization, and then an international one. The association awards the annual ''Sybil Halpern Milton Memorial Book Prize''. History The founder and long-time executive director of the GSA was Professor Gerald R.
