Gerhard Stäbler
Gerhard Stäbler (born 1949) is a German composer born in Wilhelmsdorf near Ravensburg. He studied with Klaus Huber and came to prominence with the chamber orchestra "acronym" ''Den Müllfahrern von San Francisco'' (The Garbage Truck Drivers of San Francisco) in 1990. This was followed by lectures at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse in 1992. He has resided extensively abroad, including Stanford University in the 1980s and Yonsei University in Seoul in 1988 and has visited Israel and Lebanon repeatedly, writing a chamber cantata '' Den Toten von Sabra und Chatila'' to poems by the Palestinian poet Tawfiq Ziad (1982). The Ruhr ( ; german: Ruhrgebiet , also ''Ruhrpott'' ), also referred to as the Ruhr area, sometimes Ruhr district, Ruhr region, or Ruhr valley, is a polycentric urban area in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Tawfiq Ziad ( ar, توفيق زيّاد, he, תאופיק זיאד, also spelt Tawfik Zayyad or Tawfeeq Ziad, 7 May 1929 – 5 July 1994) was a Palestinian Israeli politician well known for his "poetry of protest". Sabra And Shatila Massacre
The Sabra and Shatila massacre (also known as the Sabra and Chatila massacre) was the killing of between 460 and 3,500 civilians, mostly Palestinians and Lebanese Shiites, by the militia of the Lebanese Forces, a Maronite Christian Lebanese right-wing party, under the command of Elie Hobeika, in the Sabra neighborhood and the adjacent Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon. President Bachir Gemayel had been assassinated two days earlier and the Phalangists sought revenge. From approximately 18:00 on 16 September to 08:00 on 18 September 1982, a widespread massacre was carried out by the militia, while the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) had the camp surrounded.
