Gerhard Julius Richard Fischer later Gerhard Julius Richard Fisher, Gerhard R. Fisher (March 18, 1899 – May 2, 1988) was a U.S. entrepreneur of German descent. He contributed to the development and popularity of the hand held metal detector. Biography Fisher was born in 1899 in Landeshut, Silesia, to Richard Hugo Georg Arthur Fischer, an engineer, and his wife Margaretha Julia Fischer née Job. His mother was from Łódź, where the parents also married. Around 1906, the Fischer family moved to Dresden. After studying electrical engineering at the Dresden University, Fischer emigrated to the U.S. In 1931, he founded Fisher Research Laboratory, Inc. in Palo Alto, where he served as president until his retirement in 1967. While working with aircraft radio detection finders environment-dependent changes became apparent. Gerhard Fischer (diplomat)
Gerhard Fischer (20 September 1921 – 3 July 2006) was a German diplomat, ambassador and humanitarian who received the 1997 Gandhi Peace Prize in recognition of his work for leprosy and polio-afflicted patients in India. Born in Oslo, Fischer grew up in China and studied medicine at Beijing Medical University, where he gained experience as a volunteer with leprosy patients. When he was forced to abandon the course by the Japanese occupation, he travelled to Germany intending to study medicine there, but instead was obliged to fight in World War II, then was held as a POW in France. After the war, he obtained a law degree and entered the German diplomatic service. While at the German consulate in Madras, he helped a German doctor to establish a leprosy treatment and rehabilitation centre at Chettipatty. Gerhard Fischer (12 July 1890 – 10 September 1977) was a Norwegian architect and archaeologist. Biography Johan Adolf Gerhard Fischer was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the son of architect Adolph Fischer (1844–1925) and Dorothea Margaretha Elisabeth Wilcken (1857–1943). Fischer studied at the Bergen Technical School (''Bergens Tekniske Skole''), the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (''Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole'') in Oslo and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (''Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi'') in Copenhagen. From 1916 to 1926 he was employed by the Norwegian State Railways architectural office. During that period, he designed the Lillestrøm Station, Notodden Station, Åneby Station, Ljan Station and Bekkelaget Station. From 1938 until 1960, he was employed as a conservator at Universitetets Oldsaksamling, now part of Museum of Cultural History in Oslo.
