Gergely Kiss
Dr. Gergely "Gergő" Kiss (born 21 September 1977) is a Hungarian former water polo player. He was considered to be one of the best left-handed water polo players of his time. Kiss is one of ten male athletes who won three Olympic gold medals in water polo. He played on the right side, but moved to 2-meters on offense sometimes. Kiss dominated internationally in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, especially in final match against Serbia and Montenegro. The Hungarian team was not at its best in the first quarter, but Kiss was able to score thrice, helping them to keep up with their opponent. After the Hungarian side came back to tie the game in the fourth quarter, Kiss put in the game-winning goal on a 'power play' opportunity. He was voted to be in the all-star team along with teammate Tamás Kásás. Tibor Gergely ( August 3, 1900 – January 13, 1978) was a Hungarian-American artist best known for his illustration of popular children's picture books. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics. Gergely Salim (born April 1, 1972 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania) is a Hungarian-Danish taekwondo practitioner, but lives now in Los Angeles as an American citizen. He is the father of the Tanzanian-American taekwondoka Omar Salim. Career He started practicing taekwondo at the age of 8 with his brother, Joseph Salim, at Gladsaxe Taekwondo Klub near Copenhagen. In 1991, Gergely Salim won a gold medal in the finweight division at the World Taekwondo Championships in Athens. Gergely Pongrátz (Gherla, 18 February 1932 – Kiskunmajsa, 18 May 2005) was a famous veteran of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He was the commander of arguably the largest and perhaps the best-known group of fighters , at the Uprising's strongest and most lengthy point of resistance, Budapest's Corvin Passage (''Corvin Köz''); between 1 and 9 November 1956. Under his command, the Corvin Passage fighters destroyed Soviet armored vehicles, and resisted several waves of assault. Following the conflict, Pongrátz escaped capture and by 1957 had moved to the United States where he spent the majority of his exile until returning to Hungary in 1991.
