Gergana (Bulgarian Singer)
Gergana Georgieva Katsarska ( bg, Гергана Георгиева Кацарска; born 30 November 1984) is a Bulgarian pop-folk singer, often referred to as "the Barbie doll of pop-folk". Her early career (2003–2004) was marked by the runaway success of her debut single "Губя те бавно" followed by a best-selling debut album. Life and career 1984–2002: Early life Gergana was born on November 30, 1984, in Dimitrovgrad, to Lilyana and Georgi Katsarski but grew up with her grandparents in Govedartsi. She has an older sister named Lazarina. Her cousin is popular soccer player Stoyko Sakaliev. Gergana completed her secondary education at the Dimitrovgrad Music School, where she specialized in Pop Singing. On prom night, Gergana was among the selected students who performed in front of the entire class. Gergana 'Gigi' Branzova (Bulgarian language, Bulgarian: Гергана Брънзова) (born July 25, 1976 in Burgas, Bulgaria) is a former professional basketball player from Bulgaria. She was a member of the Bulgaria women's national basketball team, Bulgarian National team. She began her career in Nephtohimik, Burgas. Before attending Florida International University in Miami 1994–98, she was voted MVP for the season in 1993-94 while competing for DZU Stara Zagora, Bulgaria under the coaching of Boycho Branzov (her father and a legendary basketball player in Bulgaria). After graduating she was drafted by Detroit Shock WNBA and thus becoming the first Bulgarian player to compete in WNBA. The Bulgarian Children's Chorus and School Gergana ( bg, Български детски хор и училище "Гергана", ) is the oldest Bulgarian children's chorus and Bulgarian school in New York City. History The chorus was founded in 2004 by jazz singer-songwriter Gergana Velinova helped by opera soprano Stefka Evstatieva, and with the assistance of pianist and piano teacher Pavlina Dokovska and the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York. The school was founded in early 2005 by educator Neli Hadjiyska with the initial purpose of helping the chorus children read and understand Bulgarian lyrics. Since 2009, ''Gergana'' participates in Bulgarian Ministry of Education language and culture programs for Bulgarians abroad. Since 2012, the school has been licensed by the Bulgarian government to issue official certificates of completed courses of study of Bulgarian language, history and geography. Gerri Peev is a Bulgarian-born, New Zealand-raised British journalist. Peev is known for an interview for ''The Scotsman'' of Samantha Power, a foreign policy advisor to U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama. During an interview, Power said of Obama's Democratic primary opponent Hillary Clinton: "She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything." Georgi Atanasov (composer)
Georgi Atanasov ( bg, Георги Атанасов) (May 6, 1882 – November 17, 1931), was a Bulgarian composer. A native of Plovdiv, Atanasov began formal musical studies in Bucharest at the age of 14. From 1901 until 1903 he studied composition at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro with Pietro Mascagni. Upon receiving his diploma with the title of "maestro", he adopted the word as his formal style of address. He returned to Bulgaria soon after, becoming well known as a leader of military bands. He conducted the Sofia National Opera for the 1922/23 season. Atanasov was the first professional Bulgarian opera composer. His style is Italianate, melodic and bearing the influence of folk idioms. He alternated contrasting musical numbers to achieve dramatic effect in his works.
