Geremia Ghisi
Geremia Ghisi was a Venetian nobleman who in ca. 1207, following the Fourth Crusade, captured the Greek islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, and Skyros and became their lord, while his brother Andrea Ghisi conquered the islands of Tinos and Mykonos. Their sister or half-sister, Agnese Ghisi, married Othon de Cicon, who became the lord of Karystos on Euboea. In ca. 1239 Geremia, aided by his brother Andrea, expelled another Venetian nobleman, Marino Dandolo, from his fief of Andros. Dandolo died soon after, but his widow and sister brought a complaint before the Great Council of Venice, which in August 1243 ordered Geremia to restore Andros to the Dandolo heirs on pain of banishment from Venice and the sequestration of his and Andrea's properties there. Despite this decree, Geremia retained control of Andros until he died some years later. Geremia da Montagnone or Hieremias Paduanus (died 1320/1321) was a judge and author active in Padua at the beginning of the 14th century. Little is known about his life and career, but he was apparently involved with the "proto-humanist" literary circle of Lovato Lovati Lovato Lovati (1241–1309) was an Italian scholar, poet, notary, judge and humanist from the High Middle Ages and early Italian Renaissance. Pietro Geremia
Pietro Geremia (10 August 1399 – 3 March 1452) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and a professed member from the Order of Preachers. Geremia was born in Palermo but spent an extended period of time in Bologna – where he experienced a radical conversion – and Fiesole for his admittance into the Dominicans before returning to Palermo where he became a sought after and noted preacher and miracle worker. Cristoforo Di Geremia
Cristoforo di Geremia (1410–1476) of Mantua was a Renaissance sculptor, goldsmith, and medallist. He worked in Rome beginning sometime around 1456 and was active until 1476. He is most famous for his bronze medallion work under Pope Paul II. Cristoforo did a number of medals and jewellery for royal and noble commissions. Life Cristoforo di Geremia's date of birth is unknown. He was most likely the son of Geremia di Nicolino dei Geremei, a Mantuan goldsmith whose name was prevalent in documents from Mantua between the years of 1438 and 1480. Cristoforo di Geremia died at the age of 46, while at what was considered the peak of his professional career. Jeremiah of Wallachia (born 29 June 1556 - 26 February 1625) was a Romanian-born Capuchin lay brother who spent his entire adult life serving as an infirmarian of the Order in Italy. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 30 October 1983, the first of his nation to be so honored. Born Ion Costist or Ioan (John) Costişte, he emigrated to Naples during his adolescence. Also known as Geremia from Wallachia, he became noted for his careful attention to the merciful works and to the care of the poor. Steph Geremia is an Irish-American flute player and singer who lives in Galway, Ireland. Career Steph Geremia was born in an Italian/Irish neighborhood in New York. There she learned to play the Irish flute and first came into contact with traditional Irish music. At age 16 she played in various orchestras. She studied world music and traveled through India. While there, she studied the Bansuri, a north Indian flute. This was followed by a trip in Italy, where she came into contact with Salsa and Jazz music. She then went to County Sligo, Ireland, where she devoted herself more seriously to studying the Irish flute. She received a master's degree in traditional Irish music at the University of Limerick. Geremia Bonomelli (1831–1914) was the bishop of the diocese of Cremona in the late years of the 19th century and first years of the 20th century. Bonomelli is still remembered for his work in support of Italian emigrants.
