Gerda Havertong
Gerda Alexandra Havertong ( Paramaribo, Surinam - 23 October 1946) is a Dutch-Surinamese actress, television presenter, actress and singer. She is well known for being a recurring character in '' Sesamstraat'', the Dutch version of Sesame Street, since 1984. Biography Early life Havertong was born in 1946 in Paramaribo, Surinam when it was still a Dutch colony. In 1966 Havertong moved to The Hague, the Netherlands. She studied to become a schoolteacher at the University of Amsterdam and graduated 1974. After her studies she worked as a preschool teacher in Amsterdam. During her time in Amsterdam she played in amateur theatre groups. In 1975 Havertong returned to Surinam with her husband. In 1977 she sang a song in the Sranan Tongo language in the television series ''Kon hesi baka - Kom gauw terug''. She also joined the Doe-theater troupe in Paramaribo. Paramaribo (; ; nicknamed Par'bo) is the capital and largest city of Suriname, located on the banks of the Suriname River in the Paramaribo District. Zwarte Piet
Zwarte Piet (; lb, Schwaarze Péiter, fy, Swarte Pyt), also known in English by the translated name Black Pete, is the companion of Saint Nicholas ( nl, Sinterklaas, fy, Sinteklaas, lb, Kleeschen) in the folklore of the Low Countries. The earliest known illustration of the character comes from an 1850 book by Amsterdam schoolteacher Jan Schenkman in which he was depicted as a black Moor from Spain. Those portraying the traditional version of Zwarte Piet usually put on blackface and colourful Renaissance attire in addition to curly wigs and bright red lipstick. The character has been increasingly controversial since the early 2010s and decreasingly prevalent at municipal holiday celebrations in the years that have followed.
