Gerd Schenker
Gerd Schenker (born 2 June 1948) is a German percussionist. Life Born in Zeulenroda-Triebes, Schenker attended the from 1963 to 1965. From 1965 to 1969 he studied percussion with Otto Reil at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. From 1968 to 1972 he worked as a percussionist at the Volksbühne. Since 1972 he has been activ with the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra (today MDR-Sinfonieorchester). In 1975 he became solo-percussionist. From 1974 to 1993 he was also a member of the Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler. With the ensemble he received the Art Prize of the German Democratic Republic (1980), the Kunstpreis der Stadt Leipzig (1986) and the Schneider-Schott Music Prize in Main (1991). In 1978 he founded the Leipziger Schlagzeug-Duo and in 1982 the . Ruth Zechlin
Ruth Zechlin (22 June 1926 – 4 August 2007) was a German composer. Life Ruth Oschatz was born in Grosshartmannsdorf, where she began piano lessons at the age of five years, and wrote her first composition at the age of seven. From 1943 to 1949 she studied music theory with Johann Nepomuk David and Wilhelm Weismann, church music and organ with Karl Straube and Günther Ramin and piano with Rudolf Fischer and Anton Rohden at the Music Academy in Leipzig. After she completed the state exam, she worked at the academy for a year as a lecturer and also worked as a deputy organist at the Nikolai Church in Leipzig. In 1951 she married pianist Dieter Zechlin, and the marriage lasted until 1972 when the couple divorced. Zechlin gained lectureship in music theory at the German College of Music in Berlin in 1969, where she taught harpsichord and studied harmony, counterpoint, form, orchestration and composition. Reiner Kontressowitz (born 25 June 1942) is a German musicologist and lyricist. Life Kontressowitz was born in Roßlau. After graduating from the Secondary School in 1961, Kontressowitz studied horn, drums, theory and composition at the conservatory in Halle from 1961 to 1963 and at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig from 1963 to 1967. Burkhard Glaetzner (born 29 May 1943) is a German oboe virtuoso und conductor. He is one of the leading oboe players in Germany. Life Glaetzner was born in Poznań. The Forum Zeitgenössischer Musik Leipzig ZML'' ''(Forum of Contemporary Music Leipzig)'' is a non-profit organisation situated in Leipzig and an independent cultural organisation for the project-based communication of contemporary music. Krzysztof Meyer
Krzysztof Meyer (born 11 August 1943) is a Polish composer, pianist, and music scholar, formerly Dean of the Department of Music Theory (1972–1975) at the State College of Music (now Academy of Music in Kraków), and president of the Union of Polish Composers (1985–1989). Meyer served as professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne from 1987 to 2008, prior to his retirement. Biography Meyer was born in Kraków, Poland. Friedrich Schenker
Friedrich Schenker (23 December 19428 February 2013) was a German avant-garde composer and trombone player. Life Born in the German town of Zeulenroda, Schenker learned trombone and piano as a child and made his first compositional attempts at the age of 10. At the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin he studied trombone from 1961 to 1964 with Helmut Stachowiak and music composition with Eisler's student Günter Kochan. During his studies he taught himself the technique of dodecaphony and played in a jazz band. Karl Ottomar Treibmann
Karl Ottomar Treibmann (14 January 1936 – 13 February 2017) was a German composer and music educator. From 1981 until his retirement in 2001, he was professor of music theory and at the Leipzig University. He was one of the representatives of modernity in the German Democratic Republic, whose great major works can be found in the areas of opera, symphony and chamber music. Bernd Franke (composer)
Bernd Franke (born 14 January 1959) is a German composer. Career Franke was born in Weißenfels/Saale. From 1975 to 1981, he studied musical composition in Leipzig at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig with Siegfried Thiele and conducting with Wolf-Dieter Hauschild. As a founder, he presided over the "Junge Musik" group in Leipzig from 1980 to 1983. From 1981 to 1985 he was a master student at the Akademie der Künste der DDR in Berlin and in 1988 a participant in the "''Composer Workshop of the Gaudeamus Foundation Amsterdam''", where he worked with Ton de Leeuw and Chu Wen Chung, among others. Reiner Bredemeyer
Reiner Bredemeyer (2 January 1929 − 5 December 1995) was a German composer. He was born in Vélez, Santander and went to school in Breslau. In 1944 he was drafted into military service and was briefly held as a prisoner of war of the American Army in Bavaria. After the end of World War II, he met composer Karl Amadeus Hartmann who introduced him to the music of Igor Stravinsky, Béla Bartók, Anton Webern, Edgard Varèse, Charles Ives and Erik Satie. From 1949 to 1953 he studied composition with Karl Höller at the Munich Academy for Musical Arts. In 1954 Paul Dessau took him to East Germany, where Bredemeyer became a master student of Rudolf Wagner-Régeny at the DDR Academy of Arts, Berlin. He taught at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and worked together with Bertold Brecht, Walter Felsenstein and Ernst Busch.
