Geraldine Doogue
Geraldine Frances Doogue (born 29 April 1952) is an Australian journalist and radio and television presenter. Career After graduating from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Doogue intended to train as a schoolteacher, but instead decided to apply for a cadetship at ''The West Australian'' newspaper. She later worked for ''The Australian'' and spent several years in the United Kingdom as London correspondent for Rupert Murdoch's Australian newspapers. Australian Broadcasting Corporation executives were so impressed with Doogue's on-air presence during an interview with the ''Four Corners'' program, that she was offered a hosting role on ''Nationwide''. In 1985 she and Richard Morecroft co-hosted ''The National'', the ABC's short-lived experiment with a nationwide hour-long nightly news service, combining news and current affairs, with Max Walsh and Richard Carleton as chief reporters. Subiaco, Western Australia
Subiaco (known colloquially as Subi) is an inner-Western suburbs (Perth), western suburb of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is approximately west of Perth's central business district, in the City of Subiaco local government area. Historically a working-class suburb containing a mixture of industrial and commercial land uses, since the 1990s the area has been one of Australia's most celebrated urban redevelopment projects. ''Eyewitness News'' is a style of television news presentation that emphasizes visual elements and action video, replacing the older "man-on-camera" newscast. History Pioneered by Westinghouse The earliest known use of the ''Eyewitness News'' name in American television was on April 6, 1959, when KYW-TV (now WKYC-TV) – at the time, based in Cleveland and owned by Westinghouse Broadcasting – launched the nation's first 90-minute local newscast (under the title ''Eyewitness''), which was combined with the then 15-minute national newscast. Peter Harvey
Peter Michael St Clair Harvey (16 September 19442 March 2013) was an Australian journalist and broadcaster. Harvey was a long-serving correspondent and contributor with the Nine Network from 1975 to 2013. Career Harvey studied his journalism cadetship with the Sydney newspaper ''The Daily Telegraph'' and won a Walkley Award in 1964. He worked at radio stations 2UE and 2GB before moving to London and working for BBC Radio. He then went on to ''The Guardian'' (where he received the British Reporter of the Year Award for a series of articles about the sale of confidential information) and the American ''Newsweek'' magazine as a reporter in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Harvey changed to television when he joined the Nine Network in 1973 and served as its news director in the network's Canberra bureau for many years. ''Compass'' is an Australian weekly news-documentary program. The program is devoted to providing information about faith, values, ethics, and religion from across the globe. ''Compass'' airs on Sunday night on ABC TV at 6.30pm and is repeated on Wednesday at 1.30pm, it is also found on ABC iview on demand. In February 2017, the ABC announced that Geraldine Doogue would step down from presenting ''Compass'' after nearly 20 years. Kumi Taguchi was announced as her replacement. Gulf War
The Gulf War was a 1990–1991 armed campaign waged by a 35-country military coalition in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. The name was also used to refer to the first and for many years the only national ABC channel, before it was renamed ABC1 and then again to ABC TV. The Australian public broadcaster's television service was launched in November 1956 from its first television station in Australia, ABN Sydney. This was the second one in the country, with the commercial channel TCN having launched two months earlier. The Penguin Award is an annual award given for excellence in broadcasting by the Television Society of Australia. It was founded in 1954. The award trophy depicts an ear listening to a television tube, but strongly resembles a penguin, hence the name. ''Life Matters'' is a radio program that has been broadcast on Radio National by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation since 1992.
