Gerald Betts
Gerald Betts (born 5 October 1954) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond and Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1970s. A defender from Swan Hill, Betts put together just 10 games in two seasons at Richmond. After a year in the WAFL playing for East Perth, he was signed up by Collingwood for the 1977 season. He played in both the 1977 VFL Grand Final and subsequent Grand Final Replay, as a reserve. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. 1977 VFL Grand Final
The 1977 VFL Grand Final was a series of two Australian rules football matches between the North Melbourne Football Club and the Collingwood Football Club. Together they are considered the 80th and 81st grand finals of the Victorian Football League and were staged to determine the premiers for the 1977 VFL season. The premiership is usually decided by a single match; however, as the first grand final ended in a draw, a grand final replay was played the following week and was won by North Melbourne. Both grand finals were held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The first was held on 24 September 1977.
