Gerald Bagot, 5th Baron Bagot
Gerald William Bagot, 5th Baron Bagot (13 May 1866 – 5 April 1946), was the son of Vice-Admiral Henry Bagot (1846–1922) and Eleanor Chandos-Pole. He succeeded to the Barony of Bagot's Bromley and the Baronetcy of Blithfield Hall on the death of his second cousin William Bagot, 4th Baron Bagot William Bagot, 4th Baron Bagot JP (19 January 1857 – 23 December 1932), was a British peer and Conservative politician and art collector. Baron Bagot
Baron Bagot, of Bagot's Bromley in the County of Stafford, is a title in the Peerage of Great Britain. It was created on 12 October 1780 for Sir William Bagot, 6th Baronet. Bagot family The Bagot family has held land in Staffordshire since at least the 11th century. One member of the family, Hervey Bagot, represented Staffordshire in Parliament and fought as a Royalist in the Civil War. He was High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1626 and on 31 May 1627 he was created a baronet, of Blithfield Hall, in the County of Staffordshire, in the Baronetage of England. His son (the second Baronet), grandson (third Baronet) and great-grandson (fourth Baronet) also represented Staffordshire in the House of Commons. The latter's son, the fifth Baronet, sat as a Member of Parliament for Staffordshire as well as for Newcastle-under-Lyme and Oxford University. William Bagot, 4th Baron Bagot JP (19 January 1857 – 23 December 1932), was a British peer and Conservative politician and art collector. Blithfield Hall
Blithfield Hall (pronounced locally as Bliffield), is a privately-owned Grade I listed country house in Staffordshire, England, situated some east of Stafford, southwest of Uttoxeter and north of Rugeley. The Hall, with its embattled towers and walls, has been the home of the Bagot family since the late 14th century. The present house is mainly Elizabethan, with a Gothic façade added in the 1820s to a design probably by John Buckler. The decoration of the house was carried out by the Gothic-style plasterer, Francis Bernasconi. In 1945 the Hall, then in a neglected and dilapidated state, was sold by Gerald Bagot, 5th Baron Bagot, together with its estate to South Staffordshire Waterworks Company, whose intention was to build a reservoir (completed in 1953). Caryl Bagot, 6th Baron Bagot
Caryl Ernest Bagot, 6th Baron Bagot (9 March 1877 – 5 August 1961), was the son of Rev. Lewis Richard Charles Bagot (1846–1922) Vicar of Stanton Lacy, Shropshire. He succeeded to the Barony of Bagot's Bromley and the Baronetcy of Blithfield Hall on the death of his cousin Gerald Bagot, 5th Baron Bagot on 5 April 1946. He was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, and served in the Irish Guards in World War I reaching the rank of lieutenant. He married twice; firstly in 1911 and secondly to Nancy Spicer of Sydney, Australia, in 1940. His predecessor the 5th Baron had sold the family estate at Blithfield Hall, Staffordshire, in 1945 to a waterworks company. He was able to buy back the house and of land and began a long programme of renovation and restoration of the property. In 1956 he was able to open the house to the public.
