The Welsh ( cy, Cymry) are an ethnic group native to Wales. Geraint () is a character from Welsh folklore and Arthurian legend, a valiant warrior possibly related to the historical Geraint, an early 8th-century king of Dumnonia. It is also the name of a 6th-century Dumnonian saint king from Briton hagiographies, who may have lived during or shortly prior to the reign of the historical Arthur. The name Geraint is a Welsh form of the Latin Gerontius, meaning "old man". Geraint the Blue Bard ( cy, Geraint Fardd Glas) is a fictional 9th century Welsh bard and harpist, originally purported by Iolo Morganwg to be an historical figure. Geraint has been definitively shown by Welsh scholar G. J. Williams to be the invention of Iolo Morganwg,G. J. Williams, ''Iolo Morganwg'' (University of Wales Press, Cardiff, 1956), pp. 288-9. a talented author and antiquarian now infamous for his numerous literary forgeries. Iolo called him Geraint Fardd Glas or Y Bardd Glas o'r Gadair ("the Blue Bard of the (Bardic) Chair") and associated him with his version of the early history of Morgannwg (Glamorgan). Iolo makes the figure of Geraint, otherwise unattested in Welsh manuscript sources or tradition, the inventor of cynghanedd and brother of king Morgan of Morgannwg. Geraint Williams
David Geraint Williams (born 5 January 1962) is a Welsh football manager and former professional footballer. As a player, he was a midfielder from 1980 until 2000, notably featuring in the Premier League for Ipswich Town, as well as in the Football League for Bristol Rovers, Derby County, and Colchester United. He was capped 13 times for Wales. Since retiring he was worked as a coach and later became Colchester United manager between 2006 and 2008 following a successful temporary spell in charge. He later managed both Leyton Orient and the Wales U21 team. Club career Williams was born in Cwmparc. Geraint Meurig Vaughan Watkins (born 5 February 1951) is a Welsh singer, songwriter, rock and roll pianist and accordionist. Geraint Howell Thomas, (; born 25 May 1986) is a Welsh professional racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam , Wales and Great Britain. He is one of the few riders in the modern era to achieve significant elite success as both a track and road rider, with notable victories in the velodrome, in one-day racing and in stage racing. On the track, he has won three World Championships ( 2007, 2008, and 2012), and two Olympic gold medals ( 2008 and 2012), while on the road he won the 2018 Tour de France becoming the first Welshman and British-born rider to win it. Geraint Morris (28 March 1941 – 12 July 1997) was a profound Welsh film and television director and producer. His first work as a director was on ''The Onedin Line''. Later contributions included '' Sutherland's Law'', ''Barlow at Large'' and ''Juliet Bravo''. During the 1970s, Morris became a producer, beginning with the television police drama '' Softly, Softly: Task Force'', from 1973 to 1976. By 1980, Morris had completed his career change to dedicate his working life to TV producing. He helped create the highly successful and long running hospital drama ''Casualty'' (which has been on air since 1986) and contributed to the series for its first four seasons before leaving at the end of 1989. William Geraint Oliver Morgan, QC (2 November 1920 – 2 July 1995) was a British Conservative Party politician, lawyer, champion of the Welsh language and a veteran of the Second World War. Biography Geraint Morgan was born in the Llandeilo area of Carmarthenshire, the son of dairy farmer Morgan Morgan (1888–1950) and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Oliver (1893–1980). The family subsequently relocated to Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, where his father continued farming at Woad Farm, Lathbury. Morgan was educated at Bedford School, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Bi-lingual from an early age in Welsh and English, he learnt French to a high standard at school and added German and Italian by his own efforts. Geraint Jones
Geraint Owen Jones (born 14 July 1976) is a former cricketer who played for both England and Papua New Guinea. Born to Welsh parents in Papua New Guinea, between 2004 and 2006 he was the first-choice wicketkeeper for the England cricket team. He later played international cricket for Papua New Guinea from 2012 to 2014. He announced his retirement from first-class cricket in July 2015 following his resignation as the first-class cricket captain of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
