Derry City F
Derry, officially Londonderry (), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fifth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The name ''Derry'' is an anglicisation of the Old Irish name (modern Irish: ) meaning 'oak grove'. Paul Carlyle
Paul Carlyle (born 19 July 1967 in Derry) is a Northern Irish former footballer and currently a manager. Carlyle, nicknamed 'Storky', played for Derry City in the League of Ireland and was an important member of their historic treble-winning squad in the 1988–89 season. In June 1989 after a trial at Liverpool he represented the League of Ireland in a quadrangular international tournament in Trinidad and Tobago. He scored what is remembered as a great goal on a momentous European Cup occasion in the Brandywell against Benfica when he drilled a shot past the keeper into the roof of the net. He signed for Shamrock Rovers in August 1987 and made his debut on the 23rd at Longford. In total he made twenty total appearances including two in the 1987–88 European Cup. Ronan Curtis
Ronan Curtis (born 29 March 1996) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a left-winger for the Republic of Ireland national team. Curtis started his career with Derry City in 2015, spending four seasons there and amassing 100 appearances and 24 goals. He agreed a deal with Portsmouth in May 2018 and joined the South Coast club for a fee believed to be approximately £100,000. In March 2019, he won his first senior honour, the EFL Trophy. Paul Curran (association Footballer)
Paul Curran (born 5 October 1966) is a football manager and former player. He was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. On 26 November 2006, Curran was appointed the manager of Larne F.C. The Dundalk based former Larne captain had led the Inver Park side to the 2005 Irish Cup final and Premier Division safety that season. During a distinguished playing career, Curran played for periods of time with Ards F.C., Finn Harps F.C. and Derry City F.C. of the League of Ireland, where he was team captain and won the ''treble'' in 1988–1989, as well as playing for Dundalk F.C. He holds the record for the second-highest number of appearances for Derry City ever, a total of 518 appearances. His 500th appearance came in January 1999. John Cunningham (Northern Irish Footballer)
John Cunningham is a football coach and former footballer. He is also known by his nickname "Bugsy". He is currently a youth development coach with intermediate club Maiden City, and previously served as assistant manager to Paul Kee at Institute, before being sacked alongside Kee at the end of the 2014/15 season following Stute's relegation from the NIFL Premiership. In his playing days he started off with Mansfield Town and then after a short spell at Sunderland he moved back to Northern Ireland where he was part Derry City's team in the League of Ireland. Jobby Crossan
John Andrew Crossan (born 29 November 1938) is a Northern Irish author, radio sports analyst, entrepreneur, and former footballer. His brother Eddie was also a player. Club career Crossan began his career playing for Derry City, where he played as an inside forward. His talent was spotted by several leading English clubs, including Arsenal and Sunderland. When the latter made a substantial offer, Derry City offered Crossan a payment deal which he rejected, offering his own. When the Sunderland negotiations broke down, Derry City dropped Crossan, who signed for Coleraine. Derry City, still aggrieved by Crossan's actions, reported themselves to the Football League authorities for technical breaches of regulations, thus ensuring that Crossan would face disciplinary action. Liam Coyle (born 21 May 1968) is a former Northern Irish footballer. Club career Coyle made his League of Ireland debut for Finn Harps on the opening day of the 1987-88 League of Ireland First Division season at Buckley Park against EMFA on 13 September 1987. After 3 goals in 9 total appearances he moved to his home town club making his Derry debut alongside Tim Dalton, Kevin Brady, Paul Doolin and Noel Larkin at Finn Park in an Ulster Tyre Cup game on 24 July 1988. His first goal came in a friendly against Clyde F.C. on 7 August. Fay Coyle
Francis Coyle (1 April 1933 – 30 March 2007), more commonly known as Fay Coyle, was a Northern Ireland international footballer from Derry, Northern Ireland. Club career A centre-forward, Fay Coyle began his career at Derry City in the Irish League before starring with Coleraine for a number of years. At the age of 18, he joined Derry City Reserves, and after some excellent displays, he made his senior debut in the 1952–53 season against Ards. On 25 November 1953 Coyle transferred to Coleraine F.C. His best was perhaps the 1954–55 season when he top-scored in the Irish League with 20 goals and won a City Cup winner's medal. In Matt Doherty Sr.'s benefit game on 4 May 1955 against Shamrock Rovers he scored all 6 goals in a 6–1 win. Terry Cochrane
George Terence Cochrane (born 23 January 1953) is a Northern Irish former footballer who played in midfield as a winger. Cochrane started out as a youngster with Derry City and had been rejected after a months trial with Everton, then managed by Billy Bingham, for "not having the right build" to play in midfield. Cochrane returned to the Irish League to play for Linfield, and then Coleraine, thinking his dream of playing English football was over. At Coleraine, under the tutelage of former Northern Ireland boss, Bertie Peacock, Cochrane developed into a fine winger and was capped by his country for the first time in October 1975 against Norway. In October 1976 Cochrane moved to Burnley, then playing in Division Two. With Burnley he became a much sought-after player - his scintillating displays aiding Burnley in their survival from relegation.
