Georgy Maksimovich Pushkin
Georgy Maksimovich Pushkin, sometimes known as Georgi Pushkin or Grigori Pushkin, ( rus, Георгий Максимович Пушкин, r=Georgy Maksimovich Pushkin, p=; 1909–1963) was an ambassador of the Soviet Union and politician. He served as ambassador to Hungary beginning in March 1948. From June to October 1949 he served as Head of the Department of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the same time Chairman of the Radio Broadcasting Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers. He was ambassador to East Germany. East Berlin was the ''de facto'' capital city of East Germany from 1949 to 1990. Formally, it was the Allied occupation zones in Germany, Soviet sector of Berlin, established in 1945. The American, British, and French sectors were known as West Berlin. From 13 August 1961 until 9 November 1989, East Berlin was separated from West Berlin by the Berlin Wall.
