Georgia State University (Georgia State, State, or GSU) is a Public university, public research university in Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1913, it is one of the University System of Georgia's four research universities. It is also the largest institution of higher education by enrollment based in Georgia and is in the List of United States university campuses by enrollment, top 10 in the nation in number of students with a diverse Majority minority, majority-minority student population of around 54,000 students, including approximately 33,000 undergraduate and graduate students at the main campus downtown. Georgia State Stadium
Center Parc Stadium (formerly Georgia State Stadium) is an outdoor stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The stadium is the home of the Georgia State University Panthers football team as of the 2017 season, replacing the Georgia Dome which had served as their home stadium from the program's inception in 2010 until 2016. It was originally built for the 1996 Summer Olympics as Centennial Olympic Stadium. Following the 1996 Summer Paralympics, the Olympic Stadium was reconfigured as designed into the baseball-specific Turner Field, serving as the home of the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball from 1997 until 2016. Georgia State Baseball Complex
The Georgia State Baseball Complex is a baseball venue in Decatur, Georgia, United States. It is home to the Georgia State Panthers baseball team of the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference. The venue, which has a capacity of 1,092 spectators, opened in 1986. Features and renovations The field's outfield fence, which was installed prior to the 1998 season, was taken from Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium, the former home of Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves of nearby Atlanta. The fieldhouse located near the baseball field was dedicated to Bill and Susan Reeves in March 2003. 2010 renovations saw a new scoreboard installed and the playing surface redone. Georgia State League
The Georgia State League was an American Class D minor league in professional baseball that existed in 1906, 1914, 1920–1921 and 1948–1956. During its last incarnation, it existed alongside two nearby Class D circuits, the Georgia–Florida League and the Georgia–Alabama League. The version of the league began with six teams, but two clubs were forced to disband and a third to relocate before the league folded on July 9. Then, in the Empire State League based in Georgia renamed itself Georgia State League. The six-team 1914 league played a full schedule and crowned a champion, the Americus Muckalees. But the resurgence of the league did not even last two years. The circuit started 1915 as the Georgia State League and was renamed the Florida–Alabama–Georgia League (the "FLAG League"), which operated in the state of Florida, on June 15. Georgia State is a train station in Atlanta, Georgia, serving the Blue and Green lines of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. The station is located within the James H. Floyd State Office Building in Downtown Atlanta and was constructed concurrently with the building in the late 1970s. Exits are located on Piedmont Avenue and Jesse Hill Jr. Drive (formerly Butler Street). The station's name is in reference to its proximity to Georgia State University. Georgia State Prison
Georgia State Prison was the main maximum-security facility in the US state of Georgia for the Georgia Department of Corrections. It was located in unincorporated Tattnall County. First opened in 1938, the prison housed some of the most dangerous inmates in the state's history, and it was the site of Georgia's death row until 1980. Despite a published capacity of 1530, the facility housed approximately 1900 inmates, with a wide range of security levels from Minimum to Close. The last warden was Trevonza Bobbitt. The historic prison building stands at 300 1st Avenue South near Reidsville, Georgia. The state's extensive farm operation, Rogers State Prison, is also nearby - about a mile away. Georgia State Sanitarium
Georgia's state mental asylum located in Milledgeville, Georgia, now known as the Central State Hospital (CSH), has been the state's largest facility for treatment of mental illness and developmental disabilities. In continuous operation since accepting its first patient in December 1842, the hospital was founded as the Georgia State Lunatic, Idiot, and Epileptic Asylum, and was also known as the Georgia State Sanitarium and Milledgeville State Hospital during its long history. By the 1960s the facility had grown into the largest mental hospital in the world (contending with Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in New York). Its landmark Powell Building and the vast, abandoned 1929 Jones Building stand among some 200 buildings on two thousand acres that once housed nearly 12,000 patients.
