State Route 55 (SR 55) is a state highway that runs south-to-north through portions of Calhoun and Terrell counties in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It connects the Leary and Dawson areas of the state. Route description SR 55 begins at an intersection with SR 37/ SR 62 in Leary, in Calhoun County. It heads northeast on Mercer Avenue, before traveling to the north on Bray Street. It travels northeast, through rural sections of the county. The highway passes the Spring Creek Cemetery. Leary is a city in Calhoun County, Georgia, United States. The population was 618 at the 2010 census. Jimmy Carter (US President 1977–1981) reported seeing an unidentified flying object while at Leary, Georgia in 1969. State Route 62 (SR 62) is a state highway in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It connects Columbia, Alabama with Albany. Route description SR 62 begins at the Alabama state line, where the highway continues as Alabama State Route 52 into Columbia. SR 62 travels in a northeasterly direction, through rural areas of Early County, toward Blakely. About after starting, it intersects the northern terminus of SR 370 near Hilton. Just after entering Blakely, SR 62 has an intersection with SR 62 Bypass before going to downtown Blakely. A decommissioned highway is a highway that has been removed from service by being shut down, or has had its authorization as a national, provincial or state highway removed, the latter also referred to as downloading. Decommissioning can include the complete or partial demolition or abandonment of an old highway structure because the old roadway has lost its utility, but such is not always the norm. A business route (or business loop, business spur, or city route) in the United States is a short special route connected to a ''parent'' numbered highway at its beginning, then routed through the central business district of a nearby city or town, and finally reconnecting with the same ''parent'' numbered highway again at its end. Cusseta, Georgia
Cusseta ( ) is a city in Chattahoochee County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Columbus, Georgia-Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 11,267 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Chattahoochee County, with which it shares a consolidated city-county government. Despite this, Cusseta is not coterminous with the county; it remains a geographically distinct municipality within the county. History Chattahoochee County was created by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on February 13, 1854. It was formed from portions of Muscogee and Marion counties and named for the river that forms its western boundary. The act appointed five commissioners to choose a site for the county seat, which they named Cusseta to commemorate the Creek Indian town that used to exist nearby. State Route 520 (SR 520), also known as the South Georgia Parkway, is a state highway in the southern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels from the Alabama state line, at the Chattahoochee River, on the Phenix City, Alabama–Columbus, Georgia line, to Jekyll Island. State Route 234 (SR 234) is a east–west state highway located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels through portions of Calhoun and Dougherty counties. Route description SR 234 begins at an intersection with SR 45 northeast of Morgan in Calhoun County.
