State Route 262 (SR 262) is a L-shaped state highway located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels within portions of within Decatur and Mitchell counties, and skims the border of Grady County. Route description SR 262 begins at an intersection with US 27/ SR 1 (Tallahassee Highway) southeast of Attapulgus, in Decatur County. Here, US 27/SR 1 south almost immediately enter Florida and head toward Tallahassee. SR 262 heads to the northeast and then swings around to the northwest and the north-northwest. It intersects Wautauga Road, which heads southwest to Attapulgus. It then passes Conyers Cemetery and heads north to Lake Douglas Road, where the route turns to the east. Northeast of Lake Douglas Road is Hines Perkins Road, which heads east-southeast and enters Grady County and leads to Nickleville. Attapulgus, Georgia
Attapulgus is a city in Decatur County, Georgia, Decatur County, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the city had a population of 454. The town's name is an Indian word meaning "Dogwood"; due to the abundance of attapulgite, which makes up the clay soil throughout much of the Southeast (US), Southeast, the mineral was named after the town. Attapulgus was the birthplace of civil rights leader Hosea Williams (1926-2000), who is said to have been run out of town by a lynch mob at the age of 13. He is remembered around the world for his close association with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and for leading, with John Lewis, the famous march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, in 1965 that led to the passage of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. National Highway System (United States)
The National Highway System (NHS) is a network of strategic highways within the United States, including the Interstate Highway System and other roads serving major airports, ports, military bases, rail or truck terminals, railway stations, pipeline terminals and other strategic transport facilities. Georgia State Route 93
State Route 93 (SR 93) is a state highway in southwest part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway runs from Moncrief north to Pelham, northeast to Hinsonton, north to Lester, and west to Baconton. Route description SR 93 begins at an intersection with US 319/ SR 35 in Moncrief, in the southeastern part of Grady County. It heads north-northwest. After traveling through Beachton, it curves to the north-northeast. It curves to a nearly due-northwestern direction before going to the north. State Route 97 (SR 97) is a southwest-to-northeast state highway in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway's southern terminus is at the Florida state line, southwest of Faceville, where the roadway continues as County Road 269A to US 90 in Florida. State Route 309 (SR 309) is a north-south state highway located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It exists entirely within Decatur County. Route description Southeast of Bainbridge SR 309 begins at the Florida state line, southwest of Attapulgus. Here, the roadway continues as County Road 159 toward Havana, Florida. Concurrency (road)
A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Where multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, it is often economically and practically advantageous for them all to be accommodated on a single physical roadway.
