Georgia State Route 200
State Route 200 (SR 200) is a state highway that runs west-to-east through portions of Early and Baker counties in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. Its western terminus is in Blakely, and its eastern terminus is in Newton. Route description SR 200 begins at an intersection with SR 62 (Magnolia Street) in Blakely. It heads southeast to an intersection with US 27/ SR 1. The road heads east, curves to the southeast, and curves again to the east, until it enters Damascus. There, it has a brief concurrency with SR 45 (Brumby Avenue). SR 200 continues to the east and crosses into Baker County. It then resumes its eastern and southeastern routing for most of the remainder of its length. It curves to the northeast, and has one last curve to the east, before it reaches the Newton area. Blakely, Georgia
Blakely is a city and the county seat of Early County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 5,068. It is located approximately halfway between Columbus and Tallahassee, Florida on U.S. Route 27. History Blakely was platted in 1825 as the county seat for Early County. It was named for Johnston Blakeley, an officer in the War of 1812. Between 1881 and 1947 at least seven African-Americans were lynched in Blakely, including at least two veterans. One of these, Wilbur Little, was murdered upon returning from service in World War I by whites who detested seeing a negro in uniform. In 1960 an African-American veteran from New Jersey who was traveling through the county was convicted of rape and sentenced to death 3 days after his arrest in a trial that featured no defense counsel and no jury. Georgia State Route 62
State Route 62 (SR 62) is a state highway in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It connects Columbia, Alabama with Albany. Route description SR 62 begins at the Alabama state line, where the highway continues as Alabama State Route 52 into Columbia. SR 62 travels in a northeasterly direction, through rural areas of Early County, toward Blakely. About after starting, it intersects the northern terminus of SR 370 near Hilton. Just after entering Blakely, SR 62 has an intersection with SR 62 Bypass before going to downtown Blakely. National Highway System (United States)
The National Highway System (NHS) is a network of strategic highways within the United States, including the Interstate Highway System and other roads serving major airports, ports, military bases, rail or truck terminals, railway stations, pipeline terminals and other strategic transport facilities. State Route 37 (SR 37) is a state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Clay, Calhoun, Baker, Mitchell, Colquitt, Cook, Berrien, Lanier, and Clinch counties in the southwestern and south-central parts of the U.S. state of Georgia. State Route 45 (SR 45) is a state highway that runs south-to-north through portions of Seminole, Miller, Early, Calhoun, Terrell, Webster, and Sumter counties in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The route connects Iron City and Plains, via Colquitt and Dawson. Route description SR 45 begins at an intersection with US 84/ SR 38 (Dunham Street) in Iron City, in Seminole County. It passes through rural areas of the county and crosses into Miller County. It enters Colquitt, passing Pleasant Hill Cemetery and curving to the northwest. Concurrency (road)
A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Where multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, it is often economically and practically advantageous for them all to be accommodated on a single physical roadway. Damascus, Georgia
Damascus is a city in Early County, Georgia, United States. The population was 254 at the 2010 census. History An early variant name was Kestler. An act of Georgia General Assembly officially changed the name to Damascus in 1914. The present name is a transfer from nearby Old Damascus, which was bypassed when the railroad was built through the area. An EF2 tornado struck the area south of town, causing major damage and injuring five people. Geography Damascus is located in eastern Early County at (31.298580, -84.717429).
