Georgia State Route 185
State Route 185 (SR 185) is a state highway located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It lies entirely within Charlton County. Route description The highway begins at an intersection with SR 23/ SR 121 at a point just north of the Florida state line (and near their southernmost point in the state). It heads northwest, skirting the nearby Florida state line to its west. County Road 120 (CR 120) is accessible via Reynolds Bridge Road. SR 185 continues to the northwest, through rural areas, until it meets its northern terminus, an intersection with SR 94. Geographically, it is the second-southernmost state highway in the state, after SR 23/SR 121, which have their southern terminus just a little further south than SR 185. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is the organization in charge of developing and maintaining all state and federal roadways in the U.S. state of Georgia. In addition to highways, the department also has a limited role in developing public transportation and general aviation programs. Moniac, Georgia
Moniac is an unincorporated community situated along the St. Marys River, in southern Charlton County in the U.S. state of Georgia. Part of the "Georgia Bend" (the "tail" of Georgia that protrudes farther south than the rest of the state), the area was an early trading post in the 1820s as the last outpost before crossing into the Florida territory. To protect the settlement from Indian raids, a fort was built across the St. Marys from the settlement in 1838. The settlement's name comes from an Indian chief whose entrance trail to the Okefenokee Swamp passed nearby. The fort was dismantled in 1858. Charlton County, Georgia
Charlton County is the southernmost county of the U.S. state of Georgia, located in the southeastern part of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,171. The county seat is Folkston. History Georgia, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on February 18, 1854. The original county seat was at Trader's Hill, until 1901. Additional lands from Ware County, Georgia, were added to Charlton's borders by an 1855 act of the General Assembly. Georgia State Route 121 (SR 121) is a state highway between Charlton County and Augusta. It is part of a three-state multistate route beginning in Florida and ending in South Carolina. Route description SR 121 begins in rural Charlton County at the Florida state line near the southernmost point in the state. Here, the roadway continues as State Road 121. From the state line, it travels to the north, concurrent with SR 23. This segment of the route is called the Okefenokee Parkway. After passing through St. George, it has a concurrency with US 1/ US 23/ US 301/ SR 4/ SR 15 in Folkston.
