Georgia State Route 181
State Route 181 (SR 181) is a state highway in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It runs west–east through portions of Hart county. Route description The route begins at an intersection with US 29/ SR 8 south of Lake Hartwell. It heads southeast, and then curves northeast until it meets its eastern terminus at the South Carolina state line southeast of Lake Hartwell. When SR 181 reaches the state line at the Savannah River, the roadway continues east as South Carolina Highway 181. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is the organization in charge of developing and maintaining all state and federal roadways in the U.S. state of Georgia. In addition to highways, the department also has a limited role in developing public transportation and general aviation programs. Lake Hartwell
Lake Hartwell is a man-made reservoir bordering Georgia and South Carolina and encompassing parts of the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca rivers. Lake Hartwell is one of the Southeastern United States' largest recreation lakes. The lake was created by the construction of the Hartwell Dam, completed in 1962 and located on the Savannah River seven miles (11 km) below the point at which the Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers join to form the Savannah. Hart County, Georgia
Hart County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,828. The county seat is Hartwell. Hart County was created December 7, 1853 and named for Nancy Hart. Of Georgia's 159 counties, Hart County is the only one named after a woman. Lake Hartwell is also named for her. State Route 8 (SR 8) is a state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Haralson, Carroll, Douglas, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Madison, Franklin, and Hart counties, bisecting the northern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. Route description SC 181 begins at the Georgia state line at a point southwest of Starr, within Anderson County, where the roadway crosses over the Savannah River and continues as Georgia State Route 181 (Smith–McGee Highway).
