Georgia State Route 112
State Route 112 (SR 112) is a state highway that travels in a generally southwest-to-northeast orientation in the southwestern and central parts of the U.S. state of Georgia. It passes through portions of Grady, Mitchell, Worth, Turner, Wilcox, Pulaski, Bleckley, Twiggs, Wilkinson, and Baldwin counties, and connects the Cairo and Milledgeville areas of the state. Route description SR 112 begins at an intersection with US 84/ SR 38 (Bill Stanfill Highway) in the northern part of Cairo, in Grady County. It heads northwest and curves to the north, until it intersects SR 262 (County Line Road) on the Grady–Mitchell county line. The road curves to the northeast to an intersection with SR 65. The road continues to the northeast, passing the Camilla–Mitchell County Airport, just before entering Camilla. Cairo () is a city in Grady County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 10,179. The city is the county seat of Grady County. History Cairo was founded in 1835. It was incorporated as a town in 1870 and as a city in 1906. In 1905, Cairo was designated seat of the newly formed Grady County. The city was named after Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Wilkinson County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,877. The county seat is Irwinton. The county was created on May 11, 1803, and named for General James Wilkinson (1757–1825). Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (1.0%) is water. The county is located mainly in the upper Atlantic coastal plain region of the state, but does have some rolling hills due to its close proximity to the fall line. Georgia State Route 262
State Route 262 (SR 262) is a L-shaped state highway located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels within portions of within Decatur and Mitchell counties, and skims the border of Grady County. Route description SR 262 begins at an intersection with US 27/ SR 1 (Tallahassee Highway) southeast of Attapulgus, in Decatur County. Here, US 27/SR 1 south almost immediately enter Florida and head toward Tallahassee. SR 262 heads to the northeast and then swings around to the northwest and the north-northwest. It intersects Wautauga Road, which heads southwest to Attapulgus. It then passes Conyers Cemetery and heads north to Lake Douglas Road, where the route turns to the east. Northeast of Lake Douglas Road is Hines Perkins Road, which heads east-southeast and enters Grady County and leads to Nickleville. Bill Stanfill
William Thomas Stanfill (January 13, 1947 – November 10, 2016) was a defensive end for the Miami Dolphins of the American Football League and then the NFL after the AFL-NFL merger of 1970. He was a member of Miami's two Super Bowl-winning teams. High school career Stanfill attended Cairo High School in Cairo, Georgia, where he was a three-sport star in football, basketball, and track and field. In football, as a senior, he was named the Class AA Lineman of the Year after leading his team to three Region Championships. In basketball, as a senior, he led his team to the state championship and was named the state tournament MVP. In track and field, he added three state discus and one shot put AA titles. College career Stanfill played defensive tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs from 1966 through 1968. He was awarded the Outland Trophy in 1968 and was named an All-American the same year. Central Georgia is the area containing the metropolitan region surrounding the city of Macon, in Bibb County in the U.S. state of Georgia. It abuts the Atlanta metropolitan area, just to the north.
