The Georgia PGA Championship is a golf tournament that is the section championship of the Georgia section of the PGA of America. Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not use a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. Courses typically have either 18 or 9 ''holes'', regions of terrain that each contain a ''cup'', the hole that receives the ball. Each hole on a course contains a teeing ground to start from, and a putting green containing the cup. There are several standard forms of terrain between the tee and the green, such as the fairway, rough (tall grass), and various ''hazards'' such as water, rocks, or sand-filled ''bunkers''. Wayne Yates (golfer)
Wayne Edward Yates (November 7, 1937August 16, 2022) was an American professional basketball player who played 37 games for the Los Angeles Lakers in one National Basketball Association (NBA) season in 1961–62. He later worked as a college basketball coach, most notably at Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis). Early life Yates was born in Gurdon, Arkansas, on November 7, 1937. He attended North Little Rock High School in nearby North Little Rock, and played basketball for its school team. He initially studied at New Mexico State University (NMSU), where he played for the Aggies and received first team all-Border Conference honors as a sophomore in 1957–58. After two years at NMSU, he transferred to Memphis State University. He consequently sat out the 1958–59 season per NCAA transfer rules, before averaging 5.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game with the Memphis Tigers during his junior year. Richard Crawford (golfer)
Richard Crawford (born June 27, 1939) is an American professional golfer. Crawford was born in El Dorado, Arkansas and attended the University of Houston. There, he won the individual NCAA Golf Championship twice, in 1959 and 1960. He was inducted into the University's Hall of Honor in 2004. Crawford turned professional in 1962 and played on the PGA Tour from 1964 to 1976, finishing second three times: 1967 Atlanta Classic, 1969 Heritage Golf Classic, 1970 Greater Milwaukee Open. His best finish in a professional major championship was a tie for 20th in the 1967 PGA Championship. Crawford became a club professional in Georgia after his PGA Tour career ended. He was inducted into the Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 2012. DeWitt Weaver (golfer)
DeWitt Thompson Weaver Jr. (September 14, 1939 – March 18, 2021) was an American golf consultant and professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Senior PGA Tour. Early life Weaver was born in Danville, Kentucky. He spent part of his youth there and in Lubbock, Texas, where his father was the head football coach at Texas Tech in the 1950s. In high school, he excelled in a number of sports. Amateur career After graduation, he enrolled at Southern Methodist University, where he was a multisport letterman. Weaver moved to Georgia after college and became a dominant player in Georgia amateur golf. Professional career Weaver turned professional in 1964.
