Georgia Hubley
Georgia Hubley is an American percussionist, vocalist, and visual artist. She is one of the two founding members of the indie rock band Yo La Tengo, and is married to the group's other founding member, guitarist/vocalist Ira Kaplan, with whom she lives in New Jersey. The two would often see each other in record shops and at the same shows. Finding a common ground in music, and sharing a love of New York Mets baseball, they began hanging out and jamming together. They formed the band in 1984, and released their first album, ''Ride the Tiger'', in 1986 on the Coyote label. In addition to being the drummer and vocalist, Hubley has designed covers for the band's releases. She also plays occasional guitar, keyboard, and drum machine on the band's recordings. A drummer is a percussionist who creates music using drums. Most contemporary western bands that play rock, pop, jazz, or R&B music include a drummer for purposes including timekeeping and embellishing the musical timbre. The drummer's equipment includes a drum kit (or "drum set" or "trap set"), which includes various drums, cymbals and an assortment of accessory hardware such as pedals, standing support mechanisms, and drum sticks. Emily Hubley is an American filmmaker and animator. Personal Hubley is the daughter of animators Faith and John Hubley. Work Hubley worked on films at Hubley Studios from 1977 to 2001. After more than two decades of making numerous short films, providing animated segments for documentaries such as Blue Vinyl and the musical feature ''Hedwig and the Angry Inch'', Hubley made her first feature, ''The Toe Tactic'', which opened at the Museum of Modern Art in January 2009 and was released on DVD by Kino International. Hubley's hand-drawn films explore personal memory and the turbulence of emotional life. Faith Hubley
Faith Hubley (née Chestman; September 16, 1924 – December 7, 2001) was an American animator, known for her experimental work both in collaboration with her husband John Hubley, and on her own following her husband's death. Biography Born to Sally and Irving Chestman, Russian-Jewish immigrants, she grew up with three siblings on Manhattan's West Side during the 1920s and 1930s. She spoke little about her childhood and left home at age 15 to work in the theater, adopting the name Faith Elliott. At age 18, she moved to Hollywood, starting as a messenger at Columbia Pictures. She subsequently worked as a sound-effects and music editor, and then script clerk for Republic Pictures. John Hubley
John Kirkham Hubley (May 21, 1914 – February 21, 1977) was an American animation director, art director, producer and writer known for his work with the United Productions of America (UPA) and his own independent studio, Storyboard, Inc. (later renamed Hubley Studio). A pioneer and innovator in the American animation industry, Hubley pushed for more visually and emotionally complex films than those being produced by contemporaries like the Walt Disney Company and Warner Brothers Animation. He and his second wife, Faith Hubley (neé Chestman), with whom he directed alongside from 1959 onward, were nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning three.
