Georgia Dome
The Georgia Dome was a domed stadium in the Southeastern United States. Located in Atlanta between downtown to the east and Vine City to the west, it was owned and operated by the State of Georgia as part of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. Its successor, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, was built adjacent to the south and opened on August 26, 2017. The Georgia Dome was demolished on November 20, 2017. The Georgia Dome was the home stadium for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL) and the Georgia State University Panthers football team. It hosted two Super Bowls ( XXVIII and XXXIV), 25 editions of the Peach Bowl (January 1993–December 2016) and 23 SEC Championship Games (1994− 2016). 2010 Georgia State Panthers Football Team
The 2010 Georgia State Panthers football team represented Georgia State University during the 2010 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Georgia State played their first-ever season of football in 2010 and were classified as an independent school, meaning they had no athletic conference affiliation. Bill Curry guided the new program's team to a 6–5 record, while all of their home games are played in the Georgia Dome. The team's first official practice took place on August 14, 2009, and the team played its first official public spring scrimmage at the Georgia Dome on April 10, 2010, before 3,192 fans. The Panthers played their first football game at home (the Georgia Dome) on September 2, 2010, against Shorter University (Mid-South Conference) ( NAIA). Georgia State Panthers
The Georgia State Panthers are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent Georgia State University, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Almost all GSU teams compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as members of the Sun Belt Conference, a conference of which they were a charter member. Previously, GSU was a member of the CAA, and prior to that, the ASUN Conference (then known as the Trans America Athletic Conference, or TAAC). Two GSU sports play outside the Sun Belt, both in sports not sponsored by that league; both teams joined their current conference homes in July 2021. The Atlanta Hawks are an American professional basketball team based in Atlanta.
