Georges-Paul Wagner
Georges-Paul Wagner (26 February 1921 - 11 June 2006) was a French lawyer, monarchist and deputy of the far-right '' National Front'' (FN). He was first an activist of the '' Action française'' (AF) monarchist movement, and then participated in 1971 to the creation of the '' Nouvelle Action française'' (NAF) along with Bertrand Renouvin. Opposed to the NAF's policies in the name of the hard-wing, he distanced himself from it in 1974. Wagner was elected deputy of the Yvelines during the French legislative elections in 1986, under the colours of the ''Rassemblement national'' which gathered members of the National Front and candidates supported by Jean-Marie Le Pen's party. Wagner was not reelected in 1988. He founded in October 1986 the Institut d'Histoire et de Politique along with Roland Hélie and Philippe Colombani, a formation center of the National Front. History Of Far-right Movements In France
The far-right (french: Extrême droite) tradition in France finds its origins in the Third Republic with Boulangism and the Dreyfus affair. The modern "far right" or radical right grew out of two separate events of 1889: the splitting off in the Socialist International of those who chose the nation and the culmination of the "Boulanger Affair", which championed the demands of the former Minister of War General Georges Boulanger. The Dreyfus Affair provided one of the political division lines of France. Nationalism, which had been before the Dreyfus Affair a left-wing and Republican ideology, turned after that to be a main trait of the right-wing and, moreover, of the far right. A new right emerged, and nationalism was reappropriated by the far right who turned it into a form of ethnic nationalism, itself blended with anti-Semitism, xenophobia, anti-Protestantism and anti-Masonry. Charles Maurras
Charles-Marie-Photius Maurras (; ; 20 April 1868 – 16 November 1952) was a French author, politician, poet, and critic. He was an organizer and principal philosopher of ''Action Française'', a political movement that is monarchist, anti-parliamentarist, and counter-revolutionary. Maurras also held anti-communist, anti-masonic, anti-protestant, and anti-Semitic views, though he was highly critical of Nazism, referring to it as "stupidity". His ideas greatly influenced National Catholicism and integral nationalism, with a major tenet of his views being that "a true nationalist places his country above everything". Raised Catholic, Maurras went deaf and became an agnostic in his youth, but remained anti-secularist and politically supportive of the Church. Georges Jean Raymond Pompidou ( , ; 5 July 19112 April 1974) was a French politician who served as President of France from 1969 until his death in 1974. Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle (; ; (commonly abbreviated as CDG) 22 November 18909 November 1970) was a French army officer and statesman who led Free France against Nazi Germany in World War II and chaired the Provisional Government of the French Republic from 1944 to 1946 in order to restore democracy in France.
