George Wright (American Football)
George Wayne Wright (born March 3, 1947) is a former American football defensive tackle who played three seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns. He was drafted by the Colts in the ninth round of the 1969 NFL Draft. He played college football at Sam Houston State University and attended C.E. King High School in Houston, Texas. George Wright (born 24 November 1952) is a British psychologist. Wright completed a bachelor's of science degree in psychology at the University of London, followed by a master's degree and doctorate in the same subject from Brunel University London. In 2013, Wright earned a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Warwick. George Wright (August 28, 1920 in Orland, California – May 10, 1998 in Glendale, California) was an American musician, possibly the most famous virtuoso of the theatre organ of the modern era. Wright was best known for his virtuoso performances on the huge Wurlitzer theater pipe organs at the famed Fox Theater on Market Street in San Francisco and the ornate Paramount Theaters in both New York City and Oakland. In the early1940s he was an active performer on radio, first on the west coast; in 1944 he was transferred to New York City by NBC, and played numerous radio shows from 1944-1951. In 1948 he was hired as solo organist at the Paramount Theatre in Times Square. He left New York in 1951. George Wright (October 22, 1803 – July 30, 1865) was an American soldier who served in the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War. Early life and career Wright was born in Norwich, Vermont, the son of Roswell Wright and Jemima (Rose) Wright. Wright's family had an extensive military background; his father was a veteran of the War of 1812 and Norwich University founder Alden Partridge was related to his mother. Wright graduated from West Point in 1822 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Infantry. He served in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment on the frontier in Wisconsin and Maine. In 1838 he transferred to the 8th US Infantry Regiment and served on the Canada–US border. In 1844, he fought in Florida against the Seminoles where he was appointed brevet major for meritorious service. George Edward Wright (born March 29, 1943) is a Portuguese citizen of American origin, known for taking part in the hijacking of Delta Air Lines Flight 841. Originally arrested and convicted for murder in 1962 and sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, George Wright escaped from prison in 1970 and hijacked a Delta Air Lines flight in 1972 with a number of accomplices. On September 26, 2011, Wright was arrested in Portugal. The FBI requested his extradition from Portugal to the United States, but the request was denied on the grounds that Wright is a Portuguese citizen. George William Wright was an Anglican Bishop in Africa in the mid-20th century. He was born on 17 December 1873, educated at Barnsley Grammar School and ordained in 1906 following a 15-year career as a civil servant. After a curacy at Christ Church, Derby he went as a CMS missionary to Mombasa where he remained in various capacities until 1921 when he returned to England as Vicar of Boulton. In 1923 he was consecrated Bishop of Sierra Leone and in 1936 of North Africa. He was Vicar of Templecombe from 1942 to 1951 and an Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
